The Florida State Seminoles. What can we say about the Seminoles after their amazing and dynamic 2023 season? Only everything. In 2024, the big questions will be answered. Was the 2023 team as good as they said they were and deserved to be in the College Football Playoffs or was it something of a fluke? Time to look ahead to the 2024 season.
Florida State Seminoles 2023 Season Recap
What else is there to say about the 2023 Florida State Seminole team? They had the chemistry. They had the drive. They did everything needed to have a perfect season. And that they did. 13-0. But to others it just wasn’t enough. The 2023 Seminoles were snubbed from the College Football Playoffs despite being the only Power 5 team to have a perfect season record.
Why were they snubbed? Simple, their star quarterback got injured late in the season and to the CFP committee, it was him that made the team as great as they were. Which to many was an absolute slap in the face to the rest of the players on the team. One player does not make a team but apparently one player can break a team according to the CFP committee.
Onto the 2024 Season
How are things shaping up for the upcoming season for a team that could’ve won it all? Well they are surely carrying a chip on their shoulder because of how last season ended. How does that translate to the upcoming season? Some are saying that the 2024 team will be playing with even more purpose to prove that they are worthy of being considered by the CFP Committee.
Others have cast their doubts already. The “poor showing” that the Seminoles gave during their December 30, 2023 game against Georgia said all their needed to be said about Mike Norvell and his Florida State Seminoles. One of the bigger questions was who would be starting under center this season.
During the offseason, the Florida State Seminoles got a boost at the quarterback position when they landed transfer QB DJ Uiagalelei. Uiagalelei isn’t going to be without some dynamic weapons around him this season though. Despite losing a large part of their production, FSU head coach Mike Norvell knew that just high school recruits couldn’t bear the brunt of the load. Enter the transfer portal.
Florida State Seminoles Reload in Transfer Portal
Alongside an amazing signing class of high school recruits, which was amongst the top in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) and in the Top 15 in the nation, the Florida State Seminoles also go to work with the transfer portal. They needed a cast that would offer experience and production around the new starting quarterback.
What better way to do that than adding collegiate athletes that entered the transfer portal? Some of these athletes are looking for ways to be better than they were last season. Others wanted a new place to call home. Whatever their reasoning, FSU is more than happy to have them on the squad. Florida State Seminoles fans should be excited as well. Especially after seeing what Norvell has done over the course of the last couple of years with the program.
What Can The FSU Fans Expect in 2024?
Coming from a long time fan of the Florida State Seminoles, I say that there are times we get our hopes up only to be left with pure utter disappointment. Other times, we get pleasantly surprised. I think that is what we have come to expect as a fan base, the never-ending emotional rollercoaster that each season presents to us.
Coach Norvell has done an outstanding job turning this football program around from what it was just mere years ago. Last year proved to the FSU fan base of what he is capable of doing if we place our trust in him. He did not lead the fans astray, but rather gave us hope of his future tenure with the team and school.
