Manchester City Player Ratings – Some Surprises During the 2023/2024 Campaign

manchester city player ratings

Manchester City had yet another dominant season in the English Premier League. Despite dropping some points in the middle of the year and succumbing to injuries throughout the long and tumultuous season, they somehow managed to bounce back – per usual – to knock Arsenal and Liverpool FC out of the first-place spot.

Pep Guardiola’s side truly has a ‘never say die’ attitude that has made them so infamous in the past couple of PL seasons. They are not only a team filled with talented players, but a squad that has an elite mentality that pushes them to win trophies every single year.

Let’s see how the players actually performed this season – there could be a few surprises in the mix.

Manchester City Ratings

Manchester City consistently are at the top of the PL table – and it’s all because of their star-studded squad list.

Goalkeeper Ratings

Ederson 8.5/10 – Ederson was the starting goalkeeper for Manchester City. He is well known in the league for being good not only with his feet but also coming out and making acrobatic saves to keep his team in the game. He was a key player for the squad for the entirety of the season.

Stefan Ortega 8.0/10 – Despite being the backup keeper for Manchester City, Pep Guardiola has praised his secondary shot-stopper as one of the best in the world. He provided crucial saves after coming in as a substitution in the game vs. Tottenham and the FA Cup Final, showing his maturity and calmness in intense matches.

Defender Ratings

Kyle Walker 6.5/10 – Despite being on the England national team and being one of the fastest in the league, he didn’t have his best season. He fluctuated between being the best on the pitch and being only average. His lack of consistency is not what the team needed in terms of a captain and key defender.

Rico Lewis 7.5/10 – He could be ranked lower, but his young age makes a 7.5 worthy for his performances. He got more regular game time and showcased his brilliance throughout moments in the year, but he never really strung together a full game.

Ruben Dias 6.0/10 – Dias managed to skate this year at a lower level than in the past. Previously, he had big tackles and came through with set-piece goals that helped his team. This year, he only really picked up steam towards the end of the season.

Manuel Akanji 9.5/10 – With Walker and Dias not playing up to their best, Akanji had to step up – and he did. He was fantastic all year long, never having a dip in form through the tough times of the year. He is a versatile defender who can play anywhere across the back line.

Nathan Ake 8.5/10 – Ake is another defender who showed his versatility and consistency this season. He was injured for a spell, but when he is fit, he is one of the best for Manchester City in the back line.

Midfielder Ratings

Rodri 10.0/10 – Rodri was arguably the best player for Manchester City this season, showcasing his fantastic passes, amazing work rate, leadership on and off the ball, and movement.

Kevin DeBruyne 8.5/10 – When DeBruyne is healthy, he is a maestro. His injury came at an unfortunate time ,but he still somehow provided 18 assists and 6 goals in 26 appearances for his squad.

Phil Foden 10.0/10 – Foden gives Rodri a run for his money for best player of the season. He can do it all – take people on with the dribble, slot shots into the far corner, control fast passes, and thread the needle for assists. Pep giving him more game time this year was exactly what the team needed.

Forward Ratings

Haaland 9.5/10 – What more can you say? He scored 38 goals in 45 appearances for Manchester City.

Jack Grealish 6.5/10 – He hasn’t played consistently since coming to Manchester City from Villa, but his energy and positive attitude are good for the squad. However, he succumbed to injuries and a lack of confidence this year.
