In the IPL 2024 after almost getting eliminated from the league, RCB made the greatest comeback by constant wins and securing a better run rate knocking out CSK (Chennai Super Kings), which was almost qualified even if rain disrupted the match.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru or RCB secured their place in the IPL 2024 Playoffs and had to face Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the eliminator on 22nd May 2024 at Ahmedabad.

RR won the toss and elected to bowl first and the first over was handed to Trent Boult who conceded only 2 runs in the very first over of the eliminator out of which 1 run was of Leg-Bye. With this excellent bowling, Boult only let 5 runs on his second over his spell putting the pressure on the RCB batters. On the other hand, Kohli and Faf targeted other pacers getting a decent run rate of 7 runs approx.

Samson looking at the situation decided to give the 5th over of the powerplay to Boult again which led to the wicket of RCB’s captain Faf du Plessis. Overall after 3 overs, only 6 runs were conceded by Trent Boult with one crucial wicket.

RR’s spinners are speed breakers for RCB.

Rajasthan Royals

Yuzvendra Chahal and R. Ashwin led the spin attack for RR. The 8-over spell of the spinners led to the fall of three crucial wickets including Chahal’s wicket of in-form Virat Kohli which could be the turning point of the match as Virat is the leading run-scorer for the team and holds the Orange cap on his head.

On the other hand, Ashwin took the wicket of hard-hitting Australian Player, Cameroon Green with Rovman Powell catching it. Although Jurel dropped an easy catch of Rajat Patidaar, on the very next ball of the wicket of Green, Ashwin took Maxwell on a golden duck.

But there was an absolute thrill in the 14th over when Patidaar and Lomror scored 19 runs against Chahal giving a breakthrough.

Avesh strikes back after expensive overs.

After conceding 17 and 13 runs in the 4th and 12th overs respectively, Avesh Khan made a comeback in the match by taking a crucial wicket of Rajat Patidaar before the beginning of the death overs.

Avesh Khan did a great job in the 19th over by taking 2 wickets and giving only 5 runs in this crucial match. While Sandeep Sharma gave the most runs with an economy of 12, the overall bowling performance of RR was up to the mark.

Even after constantly losing wickets, RCB made a fighting total of 172 runs which was to be chased by RR batters. Kohli scored 33 of 24 while Patidar and Lomror scored 34(22) and 32(17) respectively.

There is an absence of players in both teams like Jos Buttler in RR and Reece Topley in RCB in the Royals vs Royals eliminator match. The match is slightly in the RR side as the season is known for high totals but it wouldn’t be child’s play for Samson’s squad as RCB’s recent bowling figures show a great comeback which could lead to making the match an absolute thriller.
