Supporting England Cricket Board’s (ECB) choice to review the players who were important for the T20 World Cup from the IPL 2024 for the four-match T20 series against Pakistan, Buttler said, As an England skipper, my fundamental need is to play for England.
Other than Buttler, other people who needed to leave the Indian association right on time in front of the competition playoffs were Liam Livingstone, Sam Curran, Will Jacks, Reece Topley, Phil Salt, Moeen Ali, and Jonny Bairstow.
“It’s my closely-held conviction that there ought not to be any international cricket that conflicts with the IPL.
“I feel that these games have been on the schedule for quite a while. Obviously, driving into a World Cup, your main need is playing for England and performing for England. I feel like this is the best arrangement,” he added.

Prior to this, Sam Curran likewise supported the ECB’s choice to get back to the players and said that it was a choice that was made and that it was presumably the correct thing for all of us to return. It was not out of the question for all establishments to lose a player each or somewhere in the vicinity. It would have been very cruel in the event that a few establishments got to keep two or three players and some didn’t.
I think Buttler, Motty [Matthew Mott], and Keysy [Rob Key] needed every one of us back together for this series. It checks out on the grounds that clearly, we need to play collectively and become acclimated to our jobs. It’s very hard when you go from competition to competition and then straight into a major competition like [the World Cup], where you haven’t exactly played together.
