Coach Rick Pitino continues to turn the St. John’s Red Storm into a problem for the rest of the country with the addition of Seton Hall Pirates transfer Kadary Richmond.
Richmond spend the last 3 years playing at Seton Hall following a lone freshman year at Syracuse.
Richmond is a do-it-all guard who is instantly going to be one of the key contributors for the Red Storm this upcoming season. He led the way for the Pirates with 15.7 points per game last year.
A Big Addition For the St. John’s Red Storm

St. John’s getting Kadary Richmond is a massive pickup. Richmond has already shown his ability to dominate in the Big East from his years as a Seton Hall Pirate.
Richmond in his last year at Seton Hall led the team in points (15.7), assists (5.1), rebounds. (7.0), and steals (2.2).
Richmond leading the Pirates in all these categories is even more impressive when you add in that Seton Hall was not a bad team by any means. The Pirates finished with a record of 25-12, including an NIT championship.
St. John’s has to be thrilled about getting one of the best players in the Big East on their side now.
Kadary Richmond’s Journey to St. John’s

Kadary Richmond will be putting on his 3rd different collegiate uniform when he dawns the St. John’s white and red this coming fall.
Richmond started out as a freshman at Syracuse, where he averaged 6.3 points in 21 minutes per game. Seeking a bigger role, he transferred to Seton Hall that offseason and started to flourish.
Richmond improved each year with his point total going from 8.8 to 10.1 and to 15.7 last year.
Something that Richmond would like to improve on going into next season is his 3 point percentage as it’s dipped down the last few years.
St. John’s Red Storm 2024 Season Outlook
Red Storm coach Rick Pitino took over last year looking to create an identity for a struggling program.
There were some bumps in the road early, but Pitino and St. John’s turned it around and ended the season playing really good basketball.
St. Johns finished the season 20-13 and just missed the NCAA tournament in Pitino’s first year at the helm. Overall, the season has to be looked at as a success because the Red Storm showed improvement and had their first winning season in Big East conference play since 2021.
Rick Pitino has won at every step he has made on his coaching journey. I don’t doubt his ability to get St. John’s back in the tournament next season with an improved roster.
