Last week, the Kentucky Derby weekend unfolded in Louisville, Kentucky. But it wasn’t just the races that drew attention. Behind the scenes, the Sports Illustrated Revel at the Races event offered a peek into the world of sports, fashion, and celebrity surrounding the renowned horse racing event.
Even more fun action took place last week. The city of Lousiville took the spotlight as the venue for the 150th edition of the historic Kentucky Derby race. The Kentucky Derby has been held annually since 1875, making it one of the oldest sporting events in the United States.
This importance makes the whole day an event in itself, with a series of traditions and festivities preceding the most important race, actually beginning two weeks before it, with the Kentucky Derby Festival.

Partnering with Churchill Downs, Sports Illustrated boosted the VIP fan experience with a new hospitality suite, Club SI. Yet, the surprises didn’t stop there. Held at the iconic Ice House on 226 East Washington Street, Louisville, Kentucky, Sports Illustrated organized the exclusive event Revel at the Races on the eve of the Derby on Friday, May 3rd.
The event offered guests an opportunity to experience the excitement that characterizes the events surrounding the Kentucky Derby more intimately and exclusively. It attracted a mix of celebrities and notable personalities from the world of sports, among other VIP guests.
Revel at the Races provided VIP guests with an almost private event, creating a more glamour and closed atmosphere than other Kentucky Derby Festival events. It brilliantly combined sports, fashion, and entertainment.
The event started with a series of grand entrances that set the tone for the evening. The well-known sports journalist and reporter Ian Rapoport stood out among other famous personalities. Rapport was seen arriving in style at the event, getting out of a Jeep Grand Wagoneer, highlighting the occasion’s level.

Similarly, the presence of former NBA player Chandler Parsons and social media influencer Griffin Johnson did not go unnoticed. Like Rapport, they also appeared confidently in style next to the Jeep, adding their own flair to the festivities and to the event’s allure.
Not only the celebrity arrivals and sightings but also luxury and sports brands, such as Trophy House and Fiat, as showcased at F1 Miami.
Among other key features of the event, the main entertainment of the night was headlined by DJ Irie and Grammy Award-winning pop-electronic duo The Chainsmokers at The Ice House in downtown Louisville. The event promised a stellar Derby Eve’s night, marked by notable performances and great music.
Last Friday night’s event at The Ice House was all about sports and the exclusive atmosphere hosted by Sports Illustrated. Notably, NFL stars Aaron Rodgers, Davante Adams, and David Bakhtiari were also spotted posing next to the Jeep, revealing its appeal to athletes and celebrities alike.
150 Seems to be the Mark
As the night ended, the Sports Illustrated Revel at the Races was one of the highlights of the Kentucky Derby weekend, offering attendees a glimpse into the world of sports and glamour.
Even though Friday night was about celebrities, fashion, entertainment, and sports, the next day was mainly about sports.
The Kentucky Derby was held on Saturday, May 4th, at the Churchill Downs racetrack. Mistik Dan took the gold awards. Trained by Kenny McPeek, won the historic 150th Kentucky Derby, which over 150,000 people attended, according to a post made on X by the racetrack’s communications director, Darren Rogers.
Thus, it was the Derby with the most audience since 2018. In addition, the prize money was the highest in the competition’s history: $5 million vs. $3 million (2019-2023), and the winner took $3.1 million.
