Will 2024 Be The End of Casemiro at Manchester United?

casemiro

Casemiro was once lauded as one of the best midfielders of all time, especially when he came to the Premier League last year to help out a struggling Manchester United side. However, the tables have quickly turned after poor performances this year see United in eighth place and losing key games to lower-level teams.

After United’s 4-0 loss to Crystal Palace – who thrashed the Red Devils and embarrassed their ‘star’ players – pundits, commentators, and fans are wondering if this is the end of Casemiro’s reign in England.

Casemiro Could Be Finished at Manchester United

Casemiro wasn’t the only one to blame for the horrible game versus the London-based team, but he certainly had a few errors that he wishes he could take back.

The Brazilian midfielder just wasn’t ‘on’ at all during the game, making costly errors, bad decisions, stray passes, and clumsy tackles that led to goals, chances, and possession from Palace throughout the game.

Despite winning multiple Champions League trophies throughout his career, he looked like he didn’t even belong in the Premier League in this abysmal matchup against Palace. He was part of the reason to blame for three out of the four Palace goals, causing United to drop a much-needed three points in the race for the Europa League next year.

And pundits let him hear it after the game. Legends, like Jamie Carragher and Michael Owen, made it clear to fans and those watching at home that Casemiro shouldn’t be let off too easy.

‘I think Casemiro should know himself tonight as an experienced player that he should only have three games left at the top level and then say I’m gonna go to the MLS or Saudi. His agent or the team around him need to tell him. We’re watching one of the greats of the modern time, but…”Leave the football before the football leaves you.” The football’s left him at this top level.’

Carragher blatantly stated that Casemiro should call it quits – at least at the Premier League – while he is still held in high regard.

And his career is nothing to shake your head at. Casemiro has won five Champions League trophies with the Spanish giants, Real Madrid, and three La Liga titles during his tenure at the club in Spain. He was a massive transfer to the English league in 2022, costing a whopping $87 million to come in and revive the struggling Mancunian side.

What Is Next For Manchester United?

Looking forward, it can’t get much worse than it already is for United. They lost 13 games ni the Premier League this season, which is the highest ever in United’s history.

The Red Devils have to face off against Arsenal this upcoming Sunday. The game is of utmost importance for both sides. Arsenal almost surely need to get the three points if they have any hope of staying on top of the table (depending on City’s outcome), and Manchester United need to win if they want to somehow squeeze into the top 5 spots.

After they face off against the Premier League leaders, they end their season with a game vs. Newcastle. If the last two games of the year go just as the previous ones have, we can see United – and Casemiro – ending the season by dropping six more points.
