There was a thrilling game on Tuesday night when the Oklahoma City Thunder displayed their tremendous will to win and the ability to stand up against their opponents. As a result, they won 119:112 over the New Orleans Pelicans.
Those remarkable game-crunching performances by Jalen Williams, Josh Giddey, and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander steered this comeback, bringing Thunder back into the game and tying up the game when the Pelicans almost had it in their grasp.
Late Heroics Propel Thunder to Victory
Despite trailing for much of the game, Thunder refused to surrender, unleashing a remarkable 12-0 run in the last 2 minutes. Jalen Williams, who is the hero of the game, made four significant scores within the last 30 seconds of the final half-minute that guaranteed Oklahoma City the win. With Tate’s exceptional play, Giddy’s, and Gilgeous-Alexander’s run of form, Thunder went on to win the game in a very convincing manner.
Resilience in the face of adversity
Through adversity in all the games Thunder incorporated non-yielding steadfastness and balance of mind no matter what occurred on the field. Despite a sore quadriceps, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander delivered a stellar performance, tallying 24 points and sinking a game-tying 3-pointer with just 1 minute and 29 seconds to go.
With Gilgeous-Alexander playing on despite the discomfort, Thunder’s absolute tenacity and resolve to gain success was on full display, as they squared up to a legendary opponent.
Pelicans Missed Opportunities
On another note, Pelicans were on-form but they failed in the last moments of the game thereby giving the winning side a chance to register a victory. The players could win the match if they had such a reliable teammate; otherwise, it seemed to be a difficult job for them to play until the end of the game.
The Saints had the same run of missed opportunities in only four minutes when the one that was targeting the five in a row missed shots. This, however, was costly in a way that Thunder’s squad was still with us fighting and tied with them in the game at the end.
Looking ahead
Thunder triumphing that night translates to their January 23 game against the Detroit Pistons as a logical next chapter of the book on Western Conference wins. Behind the rearing bulls at their heels, two-thirds of the Nuggets, Thunder, are the ones to keep an eye on: they are a sitting duck trying to get a chance to be on the top of the entire conference.
For instance, in the opposing case, the series of games between the Pelicans and the Clippers eventually ended just the second of the eight-game series. Although they lost the game, the tune of the words Will Green, Pelicans’ coach, was “You need to shift from 1B to 2B gear since the heat is on in the West in the playoff billed contention”.
