Nathan Rawlinson, a 44-year-old Burnley fan from Bacup, Lancashire, was arrested on Saturday at old Strafford during the game between Manchester United and Burnley. He took his celebration to another level which seemed unacceptable to Manchester United players and their supporters.
What did Nathan Rawlinson do? He was tragedy chanting. He made a plane gesture mocking the Munich disaster at Old Trafford.
Manchester United Antony gave his side the lead in the 79th minute of the game. We all thought it was the breakthrough we had expected and hoped for more goals but didn’t expect it to be from the visitors.
Could Antony’s celebration have triggered this footie Burnley fan’s gesture? I doubt! Where does Burnley stand in this situation? What is the fate of Nathan Rawlinson? We shall discuss the full details here.
It’s Still In Our Memory
The Munich disaster airplane crash occurred on the 6th of February 1958. A British European Airways plane failed to take off the runway from Munich, West Germany.
Manchester United soccer team chartered the plane to take them to Munich for refueling before returning to England. Out of 44 passengers, 23 people lost their lives out of which were 8 players.
This tragedy struck the heart of Manchester United and the whole of England. It is one of the most dreadful and irrecuperable losses in football history.

According to the Greater Manchester Police, Nathan Rawlinson, a Burnley fan was arrested on Saturday and charged. The police in a statement on Sunday said “We can confirm that we have charged Nathan Rawlinson (25/08/1979) of Bacup, Lancashire with Section 5 of the Public Order Act 1986 and has since been bailed,” it began.
The Premier League also added a statement:
“There is no place for football tragedy abuse in our game.
“We strongly condemn this behavior and sanctions are in place to ensure anybody found guilty faces consequences.” We continue to treat this as an unacceptable issue and fully support Burnley FC, Manchester United, and the police in identifying and prosecuting those responsible.”
Nathan Rawlinson was granted bail after the charge. We hope he learns his lesson.
Burnley Fc on the Situation
Burnley condemned the action and issued a statement on Saturday stating that the act was “completely unacceptable”. They promised to help the police bring the culprit to book. We don’t know how Burnley FC coach, Vincent Kompany will handle this but hopefully, the situation will likely not repeat itself.

Brief Match Analysis
Manchester United winger, Antony had scored an excellent goal in the 79th minute to give United the lead. Their celebration was cut short in the 87th minute after Andre Onana committed a foul on Burnley’s Zeki Amdouni.
The referee awarded them a penalty and Zeki Amdouni converted it from the spot. The equalizer tremendously gave the Burnley fans the satisfaction they needed. However, the 44-year-old Nathan Rawlinson took his celebration to another level by making an unacceptable gesture that led to his arrest.
The game between both teams ended in a draw and the points were shared. We witnessed 4 draws on Saturday in the Premier League fixtures which recorded 12 goals in all 4 matches.
