Kai Havertz’s £65 million transfer to Arsenal got a lot of their fans riled up against it. They had felt cheated on a deal with their London rivals. After the deal, Chelsea fans were happy and ecstatic to have made such an amount selling a so-called Chelsea flop, who was only brilliant in their Champions League and club World Cup-winning season.
On the other hand, Arsenal Fans had to lick their wounds and rely on his promising potential without bearing on the management’s intention.
The Beginning of Havertz Arsenal Career

Havertz’s start of life in North London didn’t go quite well. It was clear he was low on confidence following what was called an abysmal season from his former team. But Mikel Arteta was sure of the potential he spent a whopping 65 million pounds to bring to the Emirates, so he wasn’t fazed by the fans’ moans, despite Haverts run of bad forms.
To help the fans see the bigger picture, Mikel Arteta urged them to understand “the need for patience and belief in Havertz’s abilities, highlighting that form is temporary and class is permanent.”

Havertz’s Saving Grace

Although Havertz’s form had started improving, he was still lacking one of the main ingredients that was required of him as a striker, goals. But just as the saying goes, “One needs a little urge to get going.” And that was when Saka came to his rescue.
As the selected penalty taker for Arsenal, Bukayo Saka was en route to a brace. Still, he gave the penalty kick to Kai Havertz, allowing him to open his account for Arsenal after 32 appearances.
This single innocent but effective decision by Saka caused an immense ripple effect on Havertz, saving his already deteriorating Arsenal career.
Since then, he has been a regular on the scoresheets. With 12 goals and five assists this season, with two against his former side Chelsea. he has surpassed his old scoring record with Chelsea and at the same time, gained back his lost confidence.
When asked about the support from the team during his difficult times, he said:
“It was made clear to me from the beginning that everyone would give me the time to fit in well. And even after two or three bad games, the coach came to me and said: ‘Hey, everything is fine, soon something will click and then it will happen.’ And then the moment came.” Havertz recounted.
Having regained his confidence in front of goals, Havertz spoke about how he has gained not only confidence in front of goals but has also developed the mental capacity to withstand criticisms.
“Of course, my self-confidence suffered a bit from time to time. Nevertheless, I believe that I am now so strong that I can work my way out of such depths. You can’t please everyone anyway. Sometimes they like you, sometimes they don’t like you – and I accept that. As long as the people around me are happy with me, that’s enough for me,” Havertz concludes.
Imagine how Chelsea and their fans would be feeling right now, after happily letting him go with an inherent forecast of him not being able to realise his potential.
