One of the focal points for Manchester City this year is Kevin DeBruyne. The Dutch midfield maestro has always been one of the best players in the Premier League, assisting goals and passing incredible through balls. But the recent uptick in his fine form has given City another level of dominance in their recent games. Having DeBruyne playing at his peak is the late resurgence Manchester City needed to continue pushing for the Premier League trophy.

Kevin DeBruyne has been the missing link in City’s squad. He has always been a huge part of the passing, possession, and counter-attacking style that Pep Guardiola loves to play. But his being out for five months wasn’t in the game plan for the title contenders this year.
DeBruyne missed five months of the Premier League season due to a hamstring surgery. But, he came back as if he had never left in City’s game against Crystal Palace this week. Manchester City surged past Palace with a comfortable 4-2 win – with DeBruyne scoring twice and providing one assist.
Kevin DeBruyne himself admits that being out for such a long time is not an easy feat.
‘It’s been a very untypical season with the injuries and coming back. I have tried to prepare myself as best as possible. I try to do the job as good as possible and today I did well.’
Talk about humble.
Pep Guardiola Thrilled About DeBruyne Comeback
We have no doubt Pep Guardiola, the Man City manager, was devastated when DeBruyne was injured. He is their playmaker and long-range passer. So, it is no wonder he had tons of praise for the team and the Belgian midfielder upon his return this week.
‘Kevin DeBruyne won the game with his actions, his assists, his goals, and everything. We won the game with him. I didn’t know that DeBruyne enjoyed scoring goals more than assists, but I keep pushing him to say we have to win games. He has won many games for us, no doubt.’
If Kevin DeBruyne can perform as he has the past four seasons in the Premier League, Manchester City will be very happy. In the 2022-2023 season, he had a miraculous 7 goals and 16 assists in 32 games. Even better was his stand-out 2019-2020 season, where he scored 13 goals and provided 22 assists.
Manchester City needs DeBruyne to play at his highest level if they have any chance of winning the Premier League or advancing in the Champions League.
