Lionel Messi, the soccer GOAT, thrilled Inter Miami CF fans on 13 March in Fort Lauderdale, Florida in their match against Nashville. The forward helped Miami win 3-1 and proceed to the CONCACAF Cup quarterfinals. But Gerardo “Tata” Martino, Inter Miami’s coach substituted Messi early in the second half after he started experiencing discomfort.
Lionel Messi Has a Hamstring Injury
Messi injured his hamstring in Wednesday’s match. Martino revealed that he substituted the Argentine forward as a precaution. The coach stated that Messi’s right posterior was overloaded and he didn’t want to worsen his state. Yet, Martino closely monitored Messi’s movement for a while to determine whether he would play longer.
The forward made an assist and scored a goal before he left the pitch in the 50th minute. He made a great contribution in Inter Miami’s 5-3 aggregate that took them to the CONCACAF Champions Cup quarterfinals.
Messi Is Prone to Injuries Now
Lionel Messi sustained another injury on Thursday at Nashville in the Round of 16’s first leg. Lukas MacNaughton, Nashville’s defender stepped Messi’s calf, hence making him go down, while writhing in pain. A trainer assessed the Argentine’s calf and Martino decided to keep him at the pitch.
Even so, people Messi’s appearance in Sunday’s lineup when Inter Miami played against Montreal. He was still nursing a shin injury by then. Martino revealed on Wednesday that Messi would have several tests for the team to determine how soon he will resume playing.
Inter Miami have a tight schedule this month as they have seven more games. They will play four times in 10 days. But Messi will represent Argentina on March 22 and 26 in their two Copa America warm-up games. Martino is deliberating on resting him on 16 March when Inter Miami will clash with D.C. United. Messi had played in all games this season before Martino rested him on Sunday against Montreal, leading to Miami’s 3-2 loss.
How Will Inter Miami Fair Against D.C. United Without Lionel Messi?
Inter Miami need to re-strategize before they face D.C. United on Saturday since Lionel Messi might not play. D.C. drew 0-0 with Inter Miami in their last encounter in an away game. Having a similar score next weekend will delight Troy Lesesne as his side has performed dismally in most of their latest road matches.
D.C. are a tough nut to crack in home games and a draw or win will extend their unbeaten run. Besides, the team hasn’t lost their three recent games. Martino’s side is known for creating gaps in the backline and midfield once they lose the ball.
This weakness helped Montreal beat them on Sunday. So, Martino needs to put the defenders on their toes to avoid conceding easily. Inter Miami have to give their all against D.C. to beat them.
