Cayden Primeau stunningly made 41 saves to earn his second career shutout. Which saw the Montreal Canadiens outplay the Columbus Blue Jackets in a consecutive 3-0 victory on Wednesday night.
The Canadiens didn’t waste a bit of time demonstrating their strength. They scored all three goals during the first five minutes and 48 seconds of the game. The goals of Brendan Gallinagh, Jurai Slafkovsky, and Joshua Roy, gave the Blue Jackets a tough time. In the process of the fast successive goals, Merzlikin, a Blue Jackets goalie, went out, and Daniel Tarasov was introduced in the game.
The Rise of Primeau: Montreal Canadiens Secure Victory with Stellar Goaltending
Gallagher was the person who instigated the scoring frenzy all the way 21 seconds into the game when he niftily deflected Jake Evans’ pass into the top corner. Slafkovsky put a speaking accent to 2-0 on the power play, delivering an accurate one-timer from the right faceoff dot, which was set up by Mike Matheson. The final blow came at 5:48, after Roy’s spectacular header, immediately triggering Merzlikins’ standing on the sidelines.
Primeau did not miss this fact. He admitted, “The guys played so well (during the previous shutout ), so this one feels like I did have more impact.”
Turning the Tide: Montreal Canadiens Find Triumph Amidst Challenges, Eyeing a Strong Finish
The Montreal Canadiens succeeded by notching only their second win in twelve games. They hinted that they had been going through a difficult period. Both teams fit this description, as they are both out of playoff contention. Also, the Canadiens have been inconsistent in terms of their results, and their impact has to adapt to their goaltending.
A day later, Montreal Canadiens coach Martin St. Louis applauded Primeau for his showing, signaling out the courage he demonstrated in the face of the massive amount of shots from Columbus. Nevertheless, St. Louis saw the team as spirited and dominating the game, although they were given some penalties.
In the upcoming games, the Blue Jackets team will play against Ottawa on Thursday. The Montreal Canadiens will have their next contest with Boston on Thursday. Primeau went on to say that he was eager for the upcoming opportunities. Also, he highlighted his willingness to stay on track and be ready for anything that the rest of the season could have in store for him.
