It is official. Mike Tyson vs Jake Paul will take place on July 20th at the Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas. But why?
The fight will be on a live Netflix special powered by Most Valuable Promotions. It could be a way for Netflix to test its live-streaming capabilities further. Earlier this year, the streaming platform announced its deal to live-stream Monday Night Raw starting in 2025.
What Does Tyson and Jake Paul Think?
Some people are calling the Mike Tyson vs. Jake Paul fight “The Bash For The Cash.” And they may be right. In a lengthy statement, Jake Paul said, “It’s crazy to think that in my second pro fight, I went viral for knocking out Nate Robinson on Mike Tyson’s undercard. Now, less than four years later, I’m stepping up to face Tyson myself to see if I have what it takes to beat one of boxing’s most notorious fighters and biggest icons.”
Tyson said: “I’m very much looking forward to stepping into the ring with Jake Paul at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.” Tyson also said, “He’s grown significantly as a boxer over the years, so it will be a lot of fun to see what the will and ambition of a ‘kid’ can do with the experience and aptitude of a GOAT.”
There aren’t any other details on any additional parts of the event. With how boxing goes, there will probably be an undercard to the event. Jake Paul is one of the founders of Most Valuable Promotions alongside his adviser, Nakisa Bidarian. Most Valuable Promotions was founded in 2021, and their first signee was seven-time world champion Amanda Serrano.
Jake Paul and Mike Tyson’s Boxing Records
Jake Paul is currently 9-1 and won his last fight by a first-round KO. Mike Tyson’s last fight was an exhibition with Roy Jones Jr on November 28th, 2020. That fight was a draw. The exhibition didn’t count towards his 50-6 record, as those fights happened between the ’80s and the mid-2000s. While Tyson fought against purely boxers, Jake Paul has fought mostly MMA stars, YouTubers, and basketball players to build up his record.
