The Premier League race is constantly exciting, with three dominant teams in the top spots, separated by only two points. Liverpool is at the top of the table with 63 points; Manchester City is second with 62 points; and Arsenal is third with 61 points. With only 11 games yet to be played, every match is crucial, especially head-to-head between the top teams.
On Sunday, March 10th, the top two teams will face off in a massive clash that could alter the shape of the title race. Liverpool will be looking to keep their spot at the top and ultimately win the league as a fitting farewell to head coach Jurgen Klopp. On the other hand, Manchester City will be looking to turn the tide in the title race and continue their streak of Premier League wins. However, while both teams are formidable and evenly matched, City is disadvantaged due to several injuries to key players that have rocked the team. How does this bode for the title race?
Man City Team News
Manchester City has suffered significant injuries all season, with key players like Kevin DeBruyne and Erling Haaland unavailable at various points. Both of these key players have since returned from injury. However, there are still a few major players who are currently sidelined due to injuries.
Jack Grealish
Jack Grealish has been pivotal for City since joining them for £100 million in 2021. He was instrumental in their impressive treble win in the 22/23 season and started the 23/24 season well. However, after suffering a groin injury in the round of 16 first leg against Copenhagen in the Champions League and then suffering a recurrence of the same injury during City’s FA Cup win against Luton, Grealish cannot feature for at least a month. That makes him ineligible to start against Liverpool.
Jeremy Doku
Since signing for City, Jeremy Doku has been a revelation on the wings. The Belgian star has caused many problems for opposition defenders all season. His services would have been invaluable in the major clash against Liverpool. However, Pep Guardiola has confirmed that Doku has picked up a muscle injury, which ruled him out of the recent Copenhagen match and leaves him doubtful for the Liverpool match this Sunday. Muscle issues kept Doku out of the squad for eight matches during the earlier points of the season, and it’ll be interesting to see if he can feature in the title-defining clash against Liverpool.
Matheus Nunes
Matheus Nunes is the most recent City man to succumb to injury going into the Liverpool game. During the Champions League clash against Copenhagen, Guardiola had to turn to youngster Micah Hamilton after Nunes had a bad fall that seemed to break his finger on his left hand. While not on par with the level of stardom that some of the city players have, Nunes has been an important name on the team sheet for Guardiola in recent games and since the absence of Jack Grealish.
