The 25-year-old and his team agreed to an eight-year extension, as announced by the General Manager Patrik Allvin. The club’s worth of such a deal will be an average annual value of $11.6 million. “I’ve always been happy living here,” He said at a press conference Saturday.
Elias Pettersson’s Team Choice
Vancouver Canucks forward Elias Pettersson will be extending his contract with his team for another eight years. The annual value looks to be around $11.6 million, as stated by the Canucks General Manager Patrik Allvin.
Allvin had very positive things to say about the forward. “This is a very important signing for the Vancouver Canucks. Elias is one of the top players in the National Hockey League and is a key member of our leadership group. We know his best days are ahead of him, and with his high-end skill and desire to be the best, we look forward to seeing Elias succeed and grow.”

Elias Pettersson stands at 6’2″ and weighs 176lbs, hailing from Sundsvall, Sweden originally. He came to Vancouver in 2017 as a No.5 pick and quickly showed he was meant to play here. He earned his first goal and assist against the Calgary Flames in October of the next year, then scored again twice and assisted once three nights later. Since then, Pettersson has shown he’s quite a formidable player. His six-season career holds 387 games played with 398 points earned. He’s been in 17 post-season matchups during the 2019-20 playoffs, earning 18 additional points.
In this season alone, he has appeared in 62 games and tallied 75 points in his career. He’s ranked second of all Canucks skaters in points while being third in goals and assists. He has 29 goals with 46 assists. However, his career high was in the last season of 2022-23, where he earned a total of 102 points. He led the club with the most points and tied with Andrei Kuzmenko for the most goals achieved at 39.
Elias Pettersson was awarded the Calder Trophy in the 2018-29 season for being NHL Rookie of the Year in a landslide vote. He’s been to the NHL All-Star Weekends four times for the Canucks and was awarded Hardest Shot for his 103.2 mph shot in 2023. He also carries the Cyclone Taylor Trophy for being the Most Valuable Player, the Cyrus H. McLean Trophy for his leading score, and the Three Stars Award for Most Three-Star Appearances. He earned these during the Canucks Team Awards.
“Fans are very passionate; I also think like it’s very similar to Sweden in some way,” Elias Pettersson said about Vancouver. “…it’s always felt like home here and always felt peaceful living here, so non-hockey wise I’ve always been happy living here.”

Though he wasn’t in a hurry to sign with Vancouver, Pettersson saw the dedication and commitment of both Allvin and President Jim Rutherford and decided it was for the best. His goals for the future are very clear—win the Cup, and win it with the Canucks.
“The dream is the Cup obviously, I think we can, and I believe we can do it there and that’s why I want to stay here.”
