Lando Norris of McLaren stood for the first time at the pole position in Formula 1 at Monza in the Italian Grand Prix. The driver from the McLaren team performed just a second below the best lap time possible. Only in ten seconds quicker than his team-mate Oscar Piastri. Thus, this splendid lap enabled Norris to start ahead at the front line in the Monza race.
In an extraordinary quali session, George Russell squeezed into third, ahead of both Ferrari cars. Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz will start at 4th and the 5th positions. Lewis Hamilton qualified sixth thus completing a list of six drivers within the range of a mere zero. 186 seconds.
Lando Norris Reflects on His Performance
Lando Norris expressed his excitement about securing pole position but admitted that his lap wasn’t perfect, he stated that
Another pole is amazing. To have first and second when the field has been so tight is surprising, said Norris. It hurts me to say it but my lap wasn’t great but I am very, very happy. I am not expecting an easy race – there are some unknown things with the tyres and degradation – but I am looking forward to it.
He also noted the challenges ahead, mentioning concerns about tyre performance and race degradation. Championship-leading driver Max Verstappen did a poor showing in this session and could only post the seventh fastest time almost seven-tenths off Lando Norris’s time.
Mexican driver Sergio Perez of Red Bull, the teammate Verstappen, qualified in the eighth position. Alexander Albon finished P9 in his Williams car, one position ahead of fellow countryman Nico Hulkenberg in his Haas F1 team.
Notable Absences from Q3

Fernando Alonso was out of Q3 by a whisker after he had a 1:27. The driver of the Aston Martin finished only in the 11th position. And then there came Daniel Ricciardo of RB Racing, the twelfth position. Kevin Magnussen at the 13th position while his Alpine teammates, Pierre Gasly and Esteban Ocon were 14th and 15th respectively.
Yuki Tsunoda said he was frustrated as he could not make it to Q2 as he only qualified for the 16th position. Aston Martin’s Lance Stroll and Williams Racing’s debutant Franco Colapinto round up the list with the 17th and 18th positions. Sauber pair Valtteri Bottas and Zhou Guanyu have been slotted right at the end of the starting lineup in the 19th and 20th respectively.
In Conclusion
With this, the starting grid decided it was all set for the Italian Grand Prix. Thus, Lando Norris also prepared his mind to be quick enough this time and he did it very quickly. The main competitors for the race are George Russell, Charles Leclerc, and Lewis Hamilton. On the other hand, the championship leader Max Verstappen, will begin the race from P7 and that will put him in a lot of pressure to catch up with the leaders. The race will be a spectacle to watch as the drivers struggle for the best position and seek to create their statement on the legendary Monza track.
