On Wednesday, USU Soccer ladies overcame the University of Utah, winning their fourth game in a row. The Aggies remain perfect, taking them at Ute Field. This unstoppable team has improved their record by overcoming their already program history record and winning again. They have also made history by winning number four but surpassed themselves, outscoring all their opponents by scoring a combined 11-0 steak so far this season, shutting out every income. First to fall was Pepperdine, then Hawaii, Texas Tech, and now the Utes. The biggest question is whether BYU will be next to fall against the Aggies when they play on the 31st.
USU Aggies Go 4 To 0, Shutting Out All Oncomes
The start of the game against the Utes left doubts about whether the Aggies would come out on top once again. The first half was scoreless, but they held Utah with only a single shot on goal. Bizzy Arevlo changed that in the 58th minute when she tuned a pass into the middle of the box to sophomore midfield to Summer Diamond, who swung a powerful right-foot shot that turned into the back of the net.
That shot demanded a response from Utah, but only five minutes later, USU gave the Utes more to worry about when the defender Kylie Olsen connected with midfielder Alex Day, who shot a ricocheted biscuit past the goal, scoring once again, making it 2-0.
More Than Just A Win
Utah State is now 4-0, giving it a program history record that it hadn’t held since 2011 when the team started with an 8-0 record. This is also the second-straight win this season over a Big 12 opponent. The first to go down was reigning Big 12 champion Texas Tech, which USU played on August 25th and beat 2-0 on Chuck and Gloria Bell Field.
One fantastic turn gives way to another as Utah State has out-scored all of their opponents with a season combined 11-0. The Utes endeavored to shoot six times against USU’s seven shots. The Ute’s first shot on goal couldn’t get past the defense until the 45th minute, just before the end of the first half. This was also Summer’s third goal of the season, the seventh of her hopefully continuing career. Alex’s goal against Utah was the first of the season and the second of her career. We also can’t forget sophomore keeper Shay Kercher-Pratt, who saved three shots and played all 90 minutes in front of the net.
Their record continued last season, as USU shut out 12 of its last 14 opponents, taking the win. This win is the first for the Aggies against the Utes in almost ten years, as USU has only won twice against them.
Head Coach Manny Marins Stated
About the game;
We’re ranked for the first time and I knew that we were going to have to ride out the fact that there’s something new in the environment. It took us a half to get used to things, that was probably the worst half of soccer we’ve had. But we stayed true to our identity. Once we got to halftime and realized that nothing changed with us being ranked, we were able to be us in the second half and it was a different game. We had two great goals, and the personalities of our players started to come out again.
With this win, USU has improved their record against Utah to 6-20 and 11- 43- 1 against a Big 12 rival. Will they keep improving when the next game comes on Saturday, August 31, when they drive down to Prove? The Aggies play ranked number 16 of the top 25th BYU at 8 p.m. MST. Can they keep improving their numbers and records?
