Europa League Draw 24/25 was held at the Grimaldi Arena in Monaco. The draw was held at around noon BST. UEFA had made some crucial changes to the old format system of the draw. The changes were only made on the group stages just as the same was done for the Champions League.
However, for the Knockout stages, no changes were made. In that round, the playoff changes were also, as no migration from the Champions League had been canceled. In the past, third position teams in the UCL group stage would qualify for Europa League playoffs. Now in the new format no third position in the UCL. The Europa League playoffs will be chosen based on teams ranking on the table.
Format for the Europa League Draw
In Similarities to the Champions League, the Europa League, and Conference League, the number of teams has increased. The number now is 36 which was 32 in the past. In this new format, there’ll be no more group stages. It’ll now be replaced by a league system. Where all teams will be ranked from 1st to 36.
Every team in the Europa League will given several teams to play. Every team will face four teams at home, and four teams away. Which is now a total of eight teams, and eight games. Unlike in the past when a team would face three teams in a group, in a home and away fashion for all those teams
Qualifications in the Europa League
In the Europa League, the teams who rank first to eighth will advance automatically to the round of 16. However, teams from 9th to 24 just as in the Champions League will compete for a two-leg playoff. And 8 is expected to make it out to compete with others who had already qualified for the round 16. In the round of 16 knockout stages, the format remains the same.
Teams who are in position 25-36 in the league are eliminated from all UEFA tournaments with no room in the Conference League.
