Golden Knights Lose The Heart of The Team

Golden Knights

As the fast-approaching 2024-2025 NHL season arrives, there may be a lack of excitement for the Golden Knights fans. After losing Johnathan Marchessault, William Carrier, Chandler Stephenson, Michael Amadio, and Alec Martinez, a sense of mourning sets in. As the time from the debut of the Las Vegas Golden Knights continues to fade away, the remarkable knights, and the original misfit’s numbers continue to dwindle.

The Fading Misfits

As the start of the 2024-2025 season approaches, what is left now, is to assess the damage of the free agent and new offer off-season. As the seasons continue to end and new seasons approach, the original Las Vegas Golden Knights players known as “misfits” seem to disappear.  These players were the first-ever roster of the Las Vegas Golden Knights. Another misfit lost last season, was Riley Smith. He was traded to the Pittsburg Penguins in 2023 for a third-round draft pick in the 2024 NHL Draft.

The sadness of the recently lost Golden Knights is accompanied by heartbreak from both fans and players. Johnathan Marchessault, William Carrier, Chandler Stephenson, Michael Amadio, and Alec Martinez have left the fortress. Although not all of this year’s losses were misfits, their absence is heavily felt. The remaining misfits are William Karlsson, Brayden McNabb, and Shea Theodore.

Where The Knights Will Be Going

Losing Knights is never a happy occasion, but the largest blow was the exit of Johnathan Marchessault. The Stanley Cup Champion and Conn Smythe winner has signed a five-year contract with the Nashville Predators for a whopping  $27.5 million. It’s reported that Vegas’s offer was not enough to retain Marchessault. After intense negotiations, Nashville came out on top. Another casualty of the off-season deals is William Carrier. Carrier signed a six-year, $12 million contract with the Carolina Hurricanes in early July.

The List Continues

Unfortunately, the bad news continues from here. Michael Amadio has returned to the Ottawa Senators after agreeing to a three-year deal worth $7.8 million. The Golden Knights have also lost Alec Martinez to the Chicago Blackhawks. Martinez has accepted a one-year contract with a salary cap of $4 million. Lastly, Chandler Stephenson, the NHL equivalent of Usain Bolt, has left Las Vegas. Stephenson has agreed to a seven-year contract ($6.25 average annual value) with the Seattle Kraken.

Light at The End of The Tunnel

As disheartening as this news is, there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Misfits will always be misfits, and once a Golden Knight, always a Knight. To step into the fortress, the inner sanctum of the Knights, and be a part of a hockey club like no other is not a fleeting feeling. As the fans, team, and management say goodbye to these athletes, it is truly bittersweet. Be sure to watch for the upcoming article. We cover the new upside to this unfortunate downside.
