Michigan Wolverines AD Vows ‘Fight’ Against NCAA Punishments

The Michigan Wolverines are preparing to take on Fresno State in the opening game of the 2024 season. However, the NCAA investigation from last season is still hanging over their heads. The Connor Stallions sign-stealing scandal has been the talk of the college football world for the past year. Reports have indicated punishment is coming soon. Michigan athletic director Warde Manuel has vowed the school will fight any punishments handed down by the NCAA.

There have been a wide range of reports on what the punishments could be for the Michigan Wolverines. Jim Harbaugh left for the NFL, so there is very little the NCAA can do to him. However, many speculate the program could have wins vacated and coaches suspended. It may be a while until we see those punishments served. Manuel said in a recent appearance that the school would fight the results of the investigation.

“First of all, we’re going to fight when we need to fight. Also, where we have made mistakes, we’re going to admit them and deal with it. I don’t want people to think because we don’t talk about it publicly — and I can’t — that we’re not going to fight for what we think is right for the University of Michigan and the people that are here. We are.

“But at the same time, you have to also understand that if we do things that are against the rules, that we know are against the rules, we need to admit it and move forward and deal with it. There’s a duality to that. There’s a sense that you have a responsibility to adhere to rules we say we’re going to participate in, but when it gets to a point where we feel like it is over the top or we need to fight something, we certainly will.”

Interestingly, he admits there may be some wrong things the program admits to doing. However, he makes it clear the Michigan Wolverines will not simply accept the ruling and move on. They will appeal whatever decision comes down.

2024 Season Outlook

The current team cannot worry about the investigation. They have a job to do. The Michigan Wolverines can silence many doubters by having another strong season. It won’t be easy. The Texas Longhorns come to the Big House in week 2. Once Big Ten play begins, games against Oregon, USC, Ohio State, and rival Michigan State are on the schedule.

The team must shut out all the noise, especially when punishment is handed down. At this point, it is all speculation. Until the NCAA makes an official announcement, there is nothing the program can do except keep putting out a quality product on the field.
