Arsenal have been looking to find a possible replacement for Aaron Ramsdale who was sold to Southampton. The Englishman had been Arsenal’s first choice until last season when Mikel Arteta loaned in David Raya from Brentford. Raya came and was able to take the spot of Aaron Ramsdale immediately. And throughout last season Ramsdale had few starts for Arsenal.
The few start the Englishman had was against Brentford which the Spaniard had been loaned from. At the beginning of the summer transfer window, Arsenal completed the signing of David Raya. Leading to questions on Ramsdale’s future at the club. In the latest news, it has been confirmed that Ramsdale has headed to Southampton. The Gunners are looking for a replacement in return, and a name has come up for them.
Arsenal in Pursuit of Joan Garcia
Espanyol Goal Keeper Joan Garcia has now caught the eye of the London side. Arsenal is looking to wrap up a quick deal for the Goalkeeper before the deadline day. It was reported that the Gunners submitted a deal of €20m for Goalkeeper, however, Espanyol is asking for €30m.
Fabrizio Romano reported: “Arsenal submit €20m package bid for Joan García as new GK to replace Ramsdale. Agents Juanma López and Andy Bara bring the proposal to Espanyol worth €20m add-ons included. Espanyol ask for €30m clause. Joan García agreed terms with #AFC and wants Arsenal”.
As the deadline approaches it is expected that both clubs will reach an agreement on the deal.
Ramsdale Deal to Southampton
Arsenal confirmed the sale of Aaron Ramsdale to Southampton for a fee of around £24/25m. This was reported by Fabrizio Romano. He reported saying: “Aaron Ramsdale to Southampton, here we go! Deal in place after official bid revealed earlier today. The fee will be £24/25m add-ons included, agreed with Arsenal. Arsenal are now prepared to go for Joan García from Espanyol in the next 24 hours!”
He continued to elaborate on the details of the deal. He said: “Arsenal will receive £18m initial fee for Aaron Ramsdale plus £1m if Southampton stay in PL. There are also £6m more in add-ons linked to player performances. Ramsdale will travel for medical on Thursday. It’s expected that Ramsdale would be undergoing his medical for the Saints, soon confirmed as an official player”.
Ramsdale Departure and Possible Cause
Aaron Ramsdale signed for Arsenal in the 2022/23 season. The Englishman had replaced Berd Leno who was Arsenal’s first-choice goalkeeper. During the start of the season, Ramsdale was prolific, having sublime saves. However, flaws started reeking in as the season got nearer to a close.
The Englishman had displayed a lack of composure during games, despite his magnificent shot-stopping abilities. At the end of the season, Mikel Arteta had in mind to bring in an alternative. Which was David Raya. The Spanish goalkeeper came in and displayed exactly the composure the coach wanted. Hence it was difficult for Mikel Arteta to turn back from using him.
It seemed that Ramsdale wanted to secure the first-team spot, but due to his inability to get it, a departure was imminent.
