This has been a Storied history at Brno
Brno has a history of hosting MotoGP races every year from 1987 to 2020. This particular circuit obtained the reputation of a rather difficult track and the high-voltage audience that it always attracted. Most of the time the attendance was more than 200,000, hence the competition held at Czech’s moto racing cricut was often listed as the top most attended MotoGP event.
However, the circuit’s prospects were uncertain at the end of the 2020 season because riders pointed out safety issues to warranted repaving of the circuit. These upgrades are needed, but there are financial problems to fix due to the issues caused during the pandemic of Covid-19. This led to Brno’s exclusion from the MotoGP schedule in 2021.
In 2023 there was a change in ownership of the Brno circuit when Karel Hubáček, the entrepreneur bought the circuit from Karel Abraham Sr.’s company. Having a new leader also brought back the prospect of the circuit’s involvement in the MotoGP series.
Hubáček realized the circuit’s possibilities and the necessity are some improvements required to host MotoGP races thus making its return possible. His efforts bore fruit in a press conference on Wednesday in which the Czech Republic Grand Prix would restart was announced.

The press conference held at the Brno circuit was presided over by Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala, other distinguished guests of the MotoGP world were also present including the Dorna CEO Carmelo Ezpeleta who joined through a video call. It can be stated that the Czech government, headed by Prime Minister Fiala is crucial in the process of organization and funding of MotoGP in the Czech circuit. Prime Minister Fiala emphasized the importance of the race to the region, stating;
Motorcycle racing has a tradition at the Brno Masaryk Circuit dating back to the 1950s. MotoGP is a prestigious global event that brings tens of thousands of visitors to the Czech Republic, particularly to South Moravia, many of whom come from abroad. I am very pleased that we have managed to continue this tradition and that the MotoGP race will return to Brno after five years.
A New Era for Brno
The chief executive of Dorna Carmelo Ezpeleta said he was looking forward to MotoGP’s return to the Czech Republic’s circuit and explained that it is historically significant within MotoGP. Mr. Jan Šťovíček of the Czech Republic who is President of Auto klub, praised Hubáček’s investment, noting that it was vital to securing the return of MotoGP to Brno.
As there is political support from the new government of the Czech Republic and a new owner for its circuit, it is time for this racetrack to regain the status of one of the favorite venues of the MotoGP. Expectations are racing about the return of spectacular contests at one of the circuit’s favorite locations, guaranteeing that it will continue to be part of MotoGP.
