The San Francisco 49ers trimmed their roster from 90 men to 53 prior to yesterday’s cut down deadline. While it was a tough day for many players, today is about rejuvenation as each team can sign up to 16 players to the Practice Squad.
Mainly consisting of rookies or second year players, teams can also sign six veterans to the Practice Squad without limitations. In previous seasons, San Francisco has used their Practice Squad veterans to fill holes on special teams or in case of injury — take Chris Conley or Willie Snead IV as last year’s examples.
The 49ers are expected to place OL Jon Feliciano and CB Ambry Thomas to Injured Reserve in the next few days opening up further roster and adding further intrigue into who the team may bring back.
Claiming other team’s players will be tough for the 49ers as they sit as the 31st team on the waiver wire. That also means it will be tougher to retain their own players like 2023 third-round pick TE Cameron Latu or 2022 fifth-round pick CB Samuel Womack.
While we await confirmation on who will join the 49ers Practice Squad, checkout all the players that were released and waived yesterday.
