Preview of Inside the Florida Panthers 2024-2025 Season

Stanley Cup

The Florida Panthers won their first Stanley Cup in the 30-year franchise they have been in the NHL. The Panthers have been celebrating all summer with the Cup and players taking it to their hometowns to show the community, friends, and family. But as soon as October 2nd begins the Stanley Cup will be back up for grabs for all 32 teams to become a champion. Repeating a Stanley Cup is a hard, grueling, and difficult task.

Not a lot of teams can repeat as champions the following season. It will be a tall task for the Panthers this upcoming season to win back-to-back championships. The Florida Panthers have made it to the Finals two years in a row, can they make a third appearance?

The Florida Panthers this offseason lost some key players in free agency that helped them make the playoffs and win a Stanley Cup. This year the team will have some new faces on the ice but for the most part, the core team will be back. The Panthers lost key players Ryan Lomberg (Calgary), Josh Mahura (Seattle), Anthony Stolarz (Toronto), Brandon Montour (Seattle), Oliver Ekman-Larsson (Toronto), Vladimir Tarasenko (Detriot) and Kevin Stenlund (Utah). As GM Bill Zito puts it “There’s satisfaction, for sure, but it’s not a completed event, It’s not, you built your dream house and, ‘OK, the house is built.’ No, it’s like, ‘OK, now let’s build another one.’ … I think it makes you more hungry.”

The Florida Panthers do have their core players from last season. These players signed contract extensions or already have contracts with the Panthers to stay in Florida. Alexsander Barkov, Sam Reinhart, Carter Varhaeghe, Sam Bennet, Matthew Tkachuk, Gustav Forsling, Aaron Ekblad, and Sergei Bobrovsky. These players now know what it takes to win a Stanley Cup and want more championships.

Captain Alexsander Barkov when he hosted his day with the Stanley Cup in his hometown of Tampere, Finland, on July 31. said “We won the Cup, the greatest prize, but you want to feel the same feelings again,” That leaves you hungry. Winning the Cup helps us this coming season, but winning two in a row will [in] no way be easy.”

The Panthers also added players from free agency this off-season since they lost players. The new additions to the Panthers are A.J. Greer, Nate Schmidt, Tomas Nosek, and brothers Jesper and Adam Boqvist. Also, Anton Lundell will be looking to have a bigger role this year on the Panthers. Also, some prospects the Florida Panthers have in training camp who will get their shot are Mackie Samoskevich and Justin Sourdif.

Final Thoughts

The Florida Panthers will head into next season on a short rest since they made it al the way to the Finals. They played 55 playoff games in the last three seasons, they will head into the season on a different type of experience. Which will be filled with potential physical and mental fatigue but the Panthers believe they have enough left to make another run at the Cup and add another chapter to their success story.
