Dallas Mavericks’ Luka Doncic Appears to Be out of Shape

Luka Doncic

Social media is a double-edged sword.

Social media users have been talking about the New Orleans Pelicans star Zion Williamson’s offseason skinny body transformation while ripping Dallas Mavericks star Luka Doncic’s apparent weight gain during a charity basketball game. Williamson, 24, had a reported goal to reach 272 pounds by the start of the 2014-25 season, but it’s unclear as to why Doncic, 25, gained weight if the alarming news headlines turn out to be true.

Read on for further information.

Luka Doncic’s Apparent Weight Gain

Dallas Mavericks

Like the rest of us, Luka Doncic isn’t perfect. Doncic has been playing for the Dallas Mavericks as a guard since 2018, but has recently appeared to gain weight in his most recent appearance at Goran Dragic’s farewell game in Ljubljana, Slovenia, this past weekend. He last appeared in the Olympics qualifying tournament, as Slovenia suffered a blowout at the hands of Greece 96-68 on July 6.

According to social media posts, Doncic has been enjoying the offseason, despite the alleged weight gain from social media users. He teamed up with Denver Nuggets star Nikola Jokic in the farewell game. He and Jokic looked like they had a lot of fun together, including when The Joker poured water on Luka Magic’s head for a possible humorous reason.

Luka Doncic Can Pull It Together

Unfortunately, social media can bring out the worst in people, and Luka Doncic isn’t immune from criticism on the internet. Doncic appeared to enjoy Goran Dragic’s farewell game, but some people were quick to point out that he appeared larger than his listed 230-pound weight.

Doncic appeared to be larger than Zion Williamson in his heyday in 2021. But it’s important to look at the social media posts, make an informed decision, and remember NBA players like him can gain weight due to metabolic syndrome. Doncic’s alleged weight gain can be reversed through diet and exercise.

Luka Doncic vs. Zion Williamson

It’s clear as day that Luka Doncic and Zion Williamson live rent-free in some social media haters’ heads, as they’re both high-profile NBA players. But there’s a potential debate of Doncic vs. Williamson, including their reported weight issues and subsequent criticisms from the general public.

It’s hard to criticize either player. Doncic averaged 33.0 points, 9.2 rebounds, and 9.8 assists per game during the 2023-24 NBA season. Williamson averaged 22.9 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 5.0 assists per game during 2023-24. The only difference is that the former plays for a good team, while the latter is a member of a struggling team. But we’ll see what happens at the start of 2024-25.
