Manchester United Signs Uruguayan Defender From PSG

Manchester United finally signed the PSG defensive midfielder Manuel Ugarte. The deal was completed with PSG for a 50 million initial fee, and 10 million add-ons, including 60 million of the total package. Ugarte will travel to Old Trafford for the medicals as he is expected to be part of the Red Devils. In recent times United has suffered lots of distress. They recently lost against Brighton 2-1, which could’ve been United’s game with ease.

Unfortunately, the club’s last hope is to sign a reliable player to finish them to the top. In recent days, Manchester United signed many players like Joshua Zirkzee, Leny Yoro, De Ligt, Mazaraoui, and now Manuel Ugarte. So far, United’s run in the Premier League has been in shambles only managing to get to the 11th spot as they are behind Fulham, Nottingham Forest, Brighton, and Aston Villa. The club has shown no sign of changes in the tactics losing their prime ages by ages.

Now Manchester United’s new signings mean more gameplay to the youngsters as they take charge to save Ten Hag’s job and to bamboozle their rivals in the upcoming fixtures.

Despite doing multiple fancy signings, Manchester United lacks in the perspective of technical and tactical points of view. Their defense is one of the main reasons for their downfall. During the 2021-23 seasons, Harry Maguire who was off-form, was blamed as the main man leading to the downfall of the club. The current defense is no stranger to last year’s despite a few changes at the back. As usual, they lack in simple man-marking incidents.

The loss against Brighton shows a prime example of how Manchester United lacked in man-marking. In the dying moments of the match, the corner was taken for Brighton as they were seeking to cut the deadlock and get the breakthrough. The players targeted all the Brighton players, except for Joao Pedro, who snuck in behind everyone and managed to score the winning goal.

Apart from defense, attacking players like Rashford, Antony, and Jadon Sancho not utilizing their potential, not only missing the chances for United but also occupying the spaces of the potential candidates for the fresh young faces. Marcus Rashford hasn’t scored a single goal since the Liverpool match in the FA Cup. The injury-prone English winger has been flunking many great chances to convert great big victories for United.

However, Erik ten Hag is missing a key factor to bring Amad Diallo who is astonishing with his finishing attribute in every game. Amad proved a lot in the Brighton game, with his potential to evaluate his dribbling and finishing skills, he has been a worthy contender to save his spot and Antony proved to be lazy and skill-prone yet clumsy and inattentive with the ball.  United’s main carelessness brings out in both in attacking and defensive sides.

Manuel Ugarte is known for his defensive midfield work, as his main engine runs behind the timely interceptions of the opposition’s attackers and his rock-solid tackles which makes it difficult for his opposition to rotate the ball. He can also make decent dribbles through the center and create more possession with his high-possession passes. Apart from that the Uruguayan can create a better short pass within the player next to him like a form of tiki-taka and can also shoot from a distance.

Ugarte’s work proved he can take his role of CDM or CM which can abruptly occupy the spot of Casemiro. Although, Casemiro’s game has been draining since he arrived at Manchester United as he is getting dribbles frequently. Ugarte presence can make Manchester United more secure and under safe hands as he has more tackles committed and more tackles won than Casemiro last season.
