Green Bay Packers Acquire QB Malik Willis From Trade With Titans

Malik Willis traded to Green Bay Packers for 2025 draft pick

The Green Bay Packers are breaking down to a 53-man roster. Preseason play is complete after the last set of games ended over the weekend. Green Bay will play their first regular season game in Brazil against the Philadelphia Eagles. With roster moves starting to be made, the Green Bay Packers have made a trade with the Tennessee Titans.

The backup quarterback position has not been set in stone. Jordan Love signed a new deal, so head coach Matt LaFleur has his starting signal caller. Ideally, the Packers need a backup in case injuries arise throughout the 2024 season. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Green Bay has acquired Malik Willis from the Tennessee Titans for a 2025 seventh-round pick.

Green Bay has traded with the Tennessee Titans and acquired Malik Willis. The former Titans backup played two seasons with the organization. In the two years, Willis appeared in 11 games. Though he never threw a touchdown pass, he completed 53% of his passes when he got on the field. Malik Wills went 1-2 as a starter and threw for 350 yards and three interceptions.

As a backup signal caller for the Titans, Willis had the opportunity to play in their second preseason contest, only managing to get the offense in field goal range. Mason Rudolph will likely become the Tennessee Titans’ second-string quarterback in the 2024 NFL season.

Green Bay Packers Quarterback Options In 2024

Jordan Love is undeniably listed as QB1 for the Green Bay Packers. Love signed a four-year extension worth $220 million before the NFL preseason began. Sean Clifford did not impress Matt LaFleur in his performances throughout the three games thus far. He went 22-43 for 207 yards, one touchdown and one interception.

This could be the purpose for bringing in Malik Willis from the Tennessee Titans. Now, Willis could be in the running as the guy behind Jordan Love as Clifford may be on the way out of Green Bay. Rookie quarterback Michael Pratt saw action during the preseason as well. Pratt had an overall better completion percentage (66.7%) than Clifford, but he has not been in the league for very long.

Final Thoughts

The Green Bay Packers have to figure out an option for their backup quarterback spot before the regular season kicks off. Head coach Matt LaFleur has gained interest in Malik Willis, who looks to be the next man up after being placed on the roster yesterday. Fans will have to see how things unfold as the Green Bay Packers season starts in 10 days.
