Joaquin Buckley will be fighting Stephen Thompson very soon. After UFC 306 happens, they will meet in the Octagon in UFC 307. But the exciting part would be if Buckley came across Daniel Cormier at the event. In May this year, Buckley was victorious over Nursulton Ruziboev via a unanimous decision in St. Louis. After that, he vowed to use his post-fight interview to challenge UFC superstar Conor McGregor rather than anyone in front of him in the welterweight rankings.
Cormier was not alone in the MMA community in ridiculing the decision as a waste of Joaquin Buckley’s microphone time, especially UFC CEO Dana White, who categorically dismissed the request merely fifteen minutes after the post-fight media scrum. But the victorious didn’t like that, and his reply increased the tensions.
Joaquin Buckley’s Reply to DC
This made Joaquin Buckley challenge Cormier and other critics with the words, “Your moms raised some cowards. ” This angered Cormier, who started cursing at him, saying that his mother died in 2022. It has been a few months since their fight, and this is the first time that Buckley will be able to have it out with Cormier in person when he fights in Salt Lake City.
Former two-division UFC champion and hall of famer Cormier should be featured in the broadcast team for the UFC 307 event. Joaquin Buckley says his main problem with Cormier was that he focused on the callout rather than what he did wrong in the fight and that he had won his fourth fight in a row at the welterweight division.
No Grudges from Joaquin Buckley
Cormier is a very popular personality because he is one of the leading commentators for UFC events. When he speaks, people listen. That’s why Buckley was upset with Cormier after his win. He just did not want to hug him or celebrate.
“Somebody like him has such a massive voice and a massive platform, any negative thing that he puts out there on me, there’s a lot of fans that are going to have a backlash on me and not kind of see my point of view. Because he knew where I was coming from, but regardless, he went in a different direction and took it. That was his choice.”
Joaquin Buckley says he has no personal animosity or desire to have a showdown with Cormier when they meet in Utah. Rather, he wants to take their past and make something positive out of it from this point forward. “Ain’t no beef on my end. I like to break balls, too. My thing is, just like at the end of the day, we’re all just having fun, we’re all just talking stuff. But we can figure this stuff out if there’s an issue or a misunderstanding.”
Final Thoughts
Fighters fight in the Octagon against their opponents professionally, but they are not enemies. They respect each other in the fight and after the fight, but such an exchange of words can result in highly sensitive situations. We hope that both of them will stay professional and maintain a good environment. What are your thoughts about Joaquin Buckley’s upcoming fight? Let us know in the comment section.
