San Francisco Giants Sign Cavan Biggio

Cavan Biggio

The San Francisco Giants have signed a familiar name in Cavan Biggio. This will be Biggio’s third team this season, as he first played with the Toronto Blue Jays before being traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers. This is an important deal both for the player and for the team as the Giants try to bolster the roster with potential players.

The son of Hall of Famer Craig Biggio, Cavan Biggio had loads of expectations on his shoulders as he entered the major leagues. He was touted as the missing piece for the starting lineup that the Blue Jays had in 2019 and was already rolling out stars like Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Bo Bichette. With regards to the career of Cavan Biggio, it has been quite a rollercoaster.

This has been a trying season, performance-wise, for Biggio. His numbers have lingered around awful, batting a low 197 with five home runs and 19 RBIs. He has yet to become one of the consistent contributors that his tools suggest he could be. His career batting average is .225, and his best year was his rookie season when he hit 16 homers.

A New Start with the Giants

Now with the San Francisco Giants, Biggio will represent minor league depth for his new club. The Giants inked him to a minor league contract and sent him to Triple-A, providing him a chance to find his game and potentially crack the big league roster at some point down the road.

The Giants may be giving Biggio another chance at it. Roster moves could be in the cards going into 2025—not least of which is the fact that Matt Chapman is projected to depart, meaning that holes could open up at places like third base. For Biggio, this is his chance to go big or go home, trickle his mark, and cement a long-term place.

Plan for the Giants

In signing Biggio, the Giants took the opportunity not only to fill out their infield depth but also to make a calculated gamble that the infielder would reclaim his form and contribute significantly. Signing Biggio befits a Giants side, leaving nothing to chance, all for team improvement. All performances in Triple-A will be under watch concerning getting Biggio to adjust to the Giants. If there is improvement with some sense of consistency, he might probably be given a call for the major league team. This signing by the Giants will have depended on their belief in him and how much he can amount to, despite the recent challenges he has had.

Biggio gets an exciting new opportunity with the San Francisco Giants. With the change of scenery and potentially a big role in the future, Biggio does have a chance at turning his career around. As far as the Giants are concerned, this has served as a tactical move; maybe it would work out well toward fortifying their team so they can compete at a higher level.
