Bird revealed that pace is the most important factor in Clark’s game and that she will continue to break records moving forward, elevating the Indiana Fever and the league itself.
At the young age of 22, she broke the NCAA Division 1 women’s record for points scored ending her season with 1,113 total points. Caitlin Clark was the first pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft, has most recently broken the rookie record for assists, and has come out of the gates forecasted to be one of the best women’s basketball players of all time.
She is “ramming it down people’s throats” Bird also shares something that is the key takeaway for all of Caitlin Clark’s competitors “What I’ve learned in my WNBA experience is pace of play trumps physicality, it trumps size, it can trump experience.” Sue Bird is clear on what kept her successful during her career and what makes teams champions: pace.
Clark’s Pace Will Level Up WNBA
Sue Bird has forewarned those who will face Caitlin Clark this season as to what an incredible pace this rookie is setting this year. The entire WNBA has their eyes peeled on the incredible star-in-the-making, Clark will continue to crush records and surpass her peers on the court. Although, we have yet to see development from Clark so early in her career that may be the scariest part for fellow WNBA teams.
Clark is making great and timely adjustments to playing professionally. She has been morphing her talents on the court in an impressively short time since leaving her college career in Iowa. The Indiana Fever feels secure with Clark and Kelsey Mitchell moving forward there will be a lot to learn but there is plenty more to be seen from this amazing duo. Clark has something worthwhile to prove and will continue to use the doubts the media has voiced as motivation to blow past the competition. One game at a time.
