Recently, former US. President Donald Trump publicly revealed that he is a fan of fit UFC fighter Dustin Poirier much to the chagrin of many people. These remarks were made by Trump, who is rather boisterous, during his guest appearance on Theo Von’s podcast, “This Past Weekend. This year in March, Trump visited UFC 302 in Newark, New Jersey, where Islam Makhachev fought against Poirier in the UFC 302.
Although Poirier failed to beat Makhachev, it seemed that Trump had started to like him more and more, particularly due to his sheer determination. Although it is not usual to find the former president speaking well of athletes, it seems Poirier’s determination in the octagon has left a strong impact on him.

In the podcast, Trump appreciates Poirier for its capacity to continue to fight and struggle against all the odds. Another celebrity at UFC 302, was Theo Von the host of Trump at his podcast. He supported the former president’s statement and said that he was cheering for Poirier during the fight.
Donald Trump also discussed his analysis of the fight, “He didn’t lose that fight. As that fight went along, he just got stronger and stronger.” He appreciated the ability of Dustin Poirier to get out of the choke.
“He was getting pounded, and he was going to be choked out about four different times and he just wouldn’t let it happen… he’s a really great fighter.”

It is obvious to everyone that Trump and the UFC have a connection. It is largely due to the friendship that he has with UFC head, Dana White. Most importantly, when Trump joins UFC events, it grabs more attention. It is because of his huge influence and fame. Now the UFC also knows him, so when he made his entry near the Octagon, a huge crowd greeted him with loud cheers and chants and Trump was really happy to see that.
But Islam Makhachev is a great fighter, and he performed extraordinarily well by choking out Dustin Poirier. But Trump chose his favorite and that is Dustin Poirier.
Final Thoughts
Islam Makhachev is ranked as the Pound-for-Pound champion now. Even though White does not accept this and thinks that if Jon Jones is active, no one should be the Pound-for-Pound champion. But the UFC have made it official. Besides all these great achievements Donald Trump accepted Dustin as the best fighter and that’s completely all right.
