Francis Ngannou Responds to Dana White’s Claim

Francis Ngannou

On Thursday, August 22nd, during his press conference to promote his PFL bout against Renan Ferreira, Francis Ngannou was asked for clarification regarding Dana White’s claim that “they couldn’t make Francis fight.” However, Ngannou expresses a very different side of the situation, explaining that “[he] was the one requesting the Jon Jones fight.” Not only that, Ngannou claims that White is the one who controls the narrative that is the UFC and that Dana can say whatever he wants about the fight many UFC fans hoped would happen.

The Fight That Could’ve Been

Many UFC fans had awaited the Francis Ngannou and Jon Jones matchup before Ngannou left the UFC in January of 2023, only to find that Jon Jones had made his long-awaited comeback in March of 2023. Was Jones returning to the UFC in that time frame almost too perfect of a time? There is a similar situation now with Tom Aspinall, the Interim Heavyweight Champion who has expressed interest in fighting Jon Jones. He has created a wonderful legacy for himself, but he is avoiding these two fighters who have been requesting this fight. That being said, what bearing could that have on the legitimacy of his career, and the current title he holds?

Dana White’s ‘Narrative’

Francis Ngannou exposed the ‘narrative’ that Dana White creates for viewers of the UFC. There are many trending stories with Dana White commenting on Jon Jones being the GOAT.  Perhaps he’s favoring him a little too much for Jones’s good.  White claims that Ngannou turned down this fight, but he told him a different story. Francis Ngannou says that White told him “Oh, it can’t happen, Jones doesn’t want to fight anymore.

He’s living in Albuquerque, he’s living his small life, he has a lot of money in his bank account.” Then, he turns around and makes it look like it was Ngannou denying the fight. White clearly says what he needs to say. However, there are many fans out there wondering how Jon Jones could’ve fared against Francis Ngannou, and now Tom Aspinall.

Conclusion

Rather than making excuses about why the wait has been so long, Dana White should just let the heavyweight champion debate be resolved. The weight class is not properly moving along as it should be. The winner of Stipe Miocic and Jon Jones must fight Tom Aspinall, and the fact that there is speculation that Jones may be looking to retire rather than fight Aspinall is unbelievable. Dana White needs to stop making all these claims to support his “narrative” and just let the men fight!
