Matt Brown Wonders if Adesanya is Facing Massive Decline

Dricus Du Plessis Fires Back at Alex Pereira

Matt Brown analyzed that due to the age and the recent performance of Israel Adesanya, he should not continue to fight. However, the former Middleweight champion has different plans and for now, there are no chances of him leaving the sport. But someday in the future, a time will come when Adesanya will have to make this decision. He lost against Dricus du Plessis but he performed very well and his overall performance in the UFC 305 was impressive. Fans and officials are still wondering if he will change his decision because it is the first time that he lost a fight on submission and faced two consecutive defeats.

After the event, Adesanya made it clear that he wasn’t thinking about retiring and firmly stated, “I’m not going anywhere.” According to many fans and experts, as a top fighter in the middleweight division and a huge star, even at 35 years old, he likely won’t need to win many more fights to get another shot at the title. Moreover, Matt Brown also talked about his kickboxing and MMA experience with ‘Izzy’. “I’ve had the question, Izzy is 35, he’s got a lot of miles on him from kickboxing and MMA, is his peak just ending?” Brown discussed that on the latest episode of The Fighter vs. The Writer.

Matt Brown about Victories

Matt Brown isn’t suggesting that Adesanya has slowed down, but he does wonder if a slight delay in his reaction time now compared to a few years ago might be affecting his recent performance. Adesanya has taken a lot of hits in previous fights, especially against Kelvin Gastelum and in his two bouts with Alex Pereira, but he’s always managed to come out on top. Strickland is the only fighter that almost knocked out Adesanya in his 2023 fight but the latter came back in the second round. Still, for the remainder of the fight, a lot of time Strickland was under forward pressure and the former champ was on the back foot.

Adesanya’s Performance in UFC 305

Israel Adesanya lost badly in UFC 305 but it doesn’t mean that he didn’t perform well. It just wasn’t an easy win for Dricuss du Plessis as they took the fight further from the first and second rounds. When Adesanya met du Plessis at UFC 305, he did have his good moments and was ahead of his opponent on one of the judges’ scorecards after three rounds. However, in the fourth round, he suffered several punches which allowed Du Plessis a takedown and submission, hence the end of the fight.

Matt Brown thinks that if Adesanya is slowing down, it’s likely more noticeable in his defense than his offense. This could help explain the difficulties he faced in his last two losses.
