Philadelphia 76ers Star’s Sensational Season Leads to MIP Award

Philadelphia 76ers

The Most Improved Player award was a tight race between Tyrese Maxey, Alperen Sengun, and Coby White. However, the Philadelphia 76ers star grabbed it in the end. Maxey has shown fantastic improvement in the past season. Every single stat has gone up, and he is one of the main contributors to the team.

If this continues, he will have a very bright future in Philadelphia. Maxey will be one of the faces of the league in the upcoming years. He has proven that he is hungry to win and can keep the team on track without All-Star Joel Embiid.

The Proof is in Maxey’s Stats

Maxey averaged 20.3 points per game, 3.5 assists per game, and 2.9 rebounds per game. These are very solid stats for someone in their third year in the NBA. Now, these stats are 25.9 points per game, 6.2 assists per game, and 3.7 rebounds per game. This improvement has been critical for the 76ers.

At the age of 23, he has also been to the playoffs four times in four seasons. This experience has helped him grow as a player. He’s had the chance to play against great talent and you can see how much it has increased his skill. Viewers should be ready to see Maxey in many playoffs during his career.

The Philadelphia 76ers are currently 0-2 in their series with the New York Knicks. However, this should not fall on the young star’s shoulders. Maxey is one of the reasons these games have remained close. In his first game against the Knicks, he scored 33 points. This is four more points than what Joel Embiid managed to put up.

The second game of the series went down to the wire, with the 76ers losing by three. The 23-year-old carried the 76ers as far as he could, putting up 35 points, ten assists, and nine rebounds. Once again, he scored more points than the All-Star center. The key to the team’s success will be the continuation of Maxey playing great. However, the rest of the team needs to step up.

Philadelphia 76ers Players MIP Win Controverisial

The MIP was being discussed heavily this season. Many people believe that Maxey didn’t deserve the award. The argument is that he was expected to be this good of a player. He came into the NBA, was heavily talked about, and was looked at by many teams. He was a first-round by the 76ers at pick number 21 and probably should have won this award in his second or third season.

Many fans wanted Chicago Bulls guard Coby White to take home the award. Last season, he was averaging 9.7 points per game, 2.8 assists per game, and 2.9 rebounds per game. This season, he made the jump to 19.1 points per game, 5.1 assists per game, and 4.5 rebounds per game. This is arguably a more significant improvement than what Maxey made from last season to this season.

Obviously, this debate is understandable. However, there is no changing the decision that was made. Furthermore, Tyrese Maxey is an amazing player who has shown improvement every year. Maybe he wasn’t the best candidate to win, but there is no doubt that he deserved this award.
