Indian cricket team captain Rohit Sharma expressed disappointment with his batters despite securing a narrow 6-run win over Pakistan in their T20 World Cup 2024 match on Sunday. Rishabh Pant and Axar Patel were the only batsmen to show hits as India was bowled out for 119. Jasprit Bumrah with 3 wickets, delivered a brilliant performance to achieve this thrilling victory. Rohit was disappointed by the batting players.

Rohit Sharma offered the following in an interview with reporters

We didn’t bat well enough. Halfway through our innings, we were in a good position but failed to build partnerships and fell short with the bat. Every run matters on a pitch like that, which had enough in it compared to the last game.

With a bowling lineup like ours, you feel confident to do the job. During their innings, we gathered everyone and reminded them that if it could happen to us, it could happen to them. Little contributions from everyone can make a huge difference. Bumrah is going from strength to strength.

We all know what he can do. I want him to stay in this mindset throughout the T20 World Cup. He’s a genius. The crowd was superb and never disappoints wherever we play. I’m sure they’ll go home with a big smile. It’s just the start; we have a long way to go.

Pakistani captain Babar Azam also expressed his frustration with the disappointment of the Pakistan cricket team:

We bowled well but lost back-to-back wickets in the batting and had too many dot balls. Our tactic was to play normally with strike rotation and the odd boundary, but we failed with too many dot balls. We can’t expect much from the tailenders.

We aimed to utilize the first six overs in batting, but we weren’t up to the mark. The pitch looked decent with good ball movement, although a bit slow with some extra bounce. We need to win the last two matches. We’ll sit and discuss our mistakes but look forward to the remaining matches.

The cricketer knows areas that need to be improved and will look to build on performances to help his team while moving forward. But the obstacle of facing a player of the caliber of Rohit Sharma remains a tough obstacle to overcome.
