3 Urgent Trade Targets for the Depleted Buffalo Bills After 2 Game Skid

Buffalo Bills

The NFL trade deadline is coming up fast, and plenty of trade rumors are going around. For the Buffalo Bills, who are on a two-game losing streak, the team could be looking for upgrades to continue their quest for a fifth straight American Football Conference East championship. Here are some targets the Buffalo Bills could get:

Wide Receiver Trade Target

Amari Cooper

Cooper is only owed just under a million dollars for the rest of this season after the star wide receiver restructured his contract to free him up for a trade. The Browns converted his contract and are looking to facilitate a deal to move on from Cooper. The Buffalo Bills are looking to make a splash and only have around $4 million in cap this season. While the big-name receiver on the market is Davante Adams, who is rumored to be targeting a move to the New York Jets, the Bills could make a splash for an elite receiver after losing Stefon Diggs and Gabe Davis this offseason.

Cooper has had 600+ receiving yards in all but one season in his career. He has played for the Dallas Cowboys, Oakland/Vegas Raiders, and the Browns. His trade market could be limited due to the top targets in the market, such as Adams and Diontae Johnson. Could Buffalo add to their receiver room with Cooper? Other names the Bills could target are Diontae Johnson or DeAndre Hopkins.

Defensive Tackle Trade Target

D.J. Jones

The Buffalo Bills interior defensive line has struggled this season. Ed Oliver hurt his hamstring and will miss his second straight game. The Bills need to add more interior pressure to an underwhelmed group. Daquan Jones is not getting any younger, and the team needs to add someone who can take some pressure off of rookie Dewayne Carter. Enter D.J. Jones, an excellent addition to a struggling Broncos team. Jones has been a tackling machine over the last few years, racking up an impressive 40-plus tackles. While sacks are not his strength, he would be a huge assist to the Bills run defense that gave up over 200 yards against the Baltimore Ravens.

Other defensive tackles the Buffalo Bills could target are Shelby Harris of the Cleveland Browns or Jarran Reed of the Seattle Seahawks.

Secondary Trade Targets

The Buffalo Bills made the difficult decision to part ways with the safety duo of Micah Hyde and Jordan Poyer after both players spent seven years in Buffalo, New York. While the Bills relied on a new safety duo of Damar Hamlin and Taylor Rapp, the team has not been able to get consistent play. Part of this is due to a concussion suffered by Rapp. He is now back on track to play Monday night against the Jets. The franchise could look to make a splash after a teeter-totter start by Cole-Bishop.

Enter Quan Martin, a 2023 second-round pick by the Washington Commanders. He has been playing primarily in the slot this season and would be a massive upgrade for a team that has missed CB Taron Johnson for an extended period of time. Martin already has 26 tackles on the season and has strong ratings on Pro Football Focus for having good tackling ability. The Buffalo Bills have struggled with tackling and would welcome Martin to a team desperate to make the Super Bowl in 2024.

Final thoughts

The depleted Buffalo Bills could be buyers at the trade deadline and look to add some urgent depth to a team that has a plethora of players on the injured list. Buffalo could look to add a wide receiver, defensive tackle, or secondary help to the team. While the franchise started off red hot with an impressive 3-0 start, they have cooled off the last two weeks. Could Brandon Beane and the Bills be buyers at the trade deadline?
