3 Players With Complex Las Vegas Raiders Legacies

Three Las Vegas Raiders players that had difficult tenures with the team.

The Las Vegas Raiders have a very complicated history. There are heroes and villains throughout team history. Some of those heroes have tenures with the team that has fans divided on how they feel about them. Nothing stirs up emotions in a fanbase like a talented player with a less acrimonious exit. There are plenty of players that qualify in this category in team history. That also dismisses players who were talented but flamed out with the team like DeAngelo Hall and Javon Walker.

Honorable Mentions

Richard Seymour is now part-owner of the Las Vegas Raiders along with Tom Brady. He’s a Pro Football Hall of Famer who spent three years with the team in Oakland. He was a Pro Bowler with the Raiders, but he also didn’t want to report to the team and threatened to retire. His salary crippled the team, causing multiple players to leave in free agency. They also gave up a massive draft haul to acquire him.

Khalil Mack is another ex-Raider with a complicated legacy that just misses out on the list. Mack was already a future Hall of Famer by the 2018 season. Yet Jon Gruden traded Mack away to the Chicago Bears for a haul of draft picks. Mack took that personally and dominates the Las Vegas Raiders anytime he faces them. Notably with the Chargers, Mack set his career high for sacks in a game against the Raiders.

3. Davante Adams

The Davante Adams drama overshadowed the 2024 season for the Las Vegas Raiders. His first two seasons with the team were statistically impressive. Adams set the single-season team record for receiving yards in 2022. But he came over from the Green Bay Packers to play with Derek Carr. Josh McDaniels and Dave Ziegler made a critical error in getting rid of Carr without any sort of plan to replace him.

From that point onward, Adams was involved in trade rumors. Most rumors were centered around Adams joining Aaron Rodgers with the Jets. After sitting out with a hamstring injury, Adams was granted a trade to the Jets. Now that he’s a Jet, Adams is healthy and ready to play. Fans and media alike feel that Adams quit on the team. Adams’ quote about feeling helpless with the Raiders didn’t help matters.

2. Derek Carr

Carr has one of the most complicated legacies in NFL History. Carr is the franchise leader in every passing stat. His time with the team was marred by inconsistency. Carr also had six head coaches and eight offensive coordinators in nine seasons. He also had a different leading receiver almost every season. Yet he was hated by half of the fanbase and is blamed for all of the failures that took place.

Anytime the Las Vegas Raiders messed up, the infamous “Carr Wars” would set off on social media. Defenders of the quarterback would go to blows with haters. Even if it had nothing to do with Carr, things would explode. The team has struggled to find a quarterback before and after Carr’s time. At the same time, things aren’t going great for Carr in New Orleans. Hopefully, both can overcome their struggles.

1. Marcus Allen

The greatest running back in Las Vegas Raiders history has to be Marcus Allen. Casual fans will throw out Bo Jackson, but Allen is a Pro Football Hall of Famer. Yet at the same time, Allen has an incredibly complicated legacy. His rivalry with owner Al Davis was legendary. It led to him making the one unforgivable sin of any Raider; joining the Kansas City Chiefs. With the Chiefs, he owned the Raiders.

Allen went 9-1 against the Raiders. The most notable performance has to be week 17 in Los Angeles. The winner of that game made the playoffs. In the final game in Los Angeles Raiders history, Allen went off for 132 yards on 33 carries. The Chiefs won 19-9. He rushed for 617 yards on 155 carries and three touchdowns in 10 games against the Raiders. His time in Kansas City left many fans with hurt feelings.
