The NFL Draft is right around the corner and will take place at Lambeau Field for the first time. This year’s draft class is not as quarterback-heavy as other classes. The big question is who deserves to be the top overall pick in this year’s NFL Draft. There are plenty of possibilities in this class. Let’s dive in a little bit deeper to see who deserves it.
Top QB NFL Draft Prospects
This year’s quarterback class is not as good as last year’s class. On many big boards like PFF, there are no quarterbacks in the top ten. Quarterback is the most important position for an NFL franchise and the top pick needs a QB. The top two that could be picked at one are Cam Ward from Miami and Shedeur Sanders from Colorado.
Let’s start with Ward who had his best season of college ball at Miami where he won ACC Player of the Year with a stat line of 4,313 passing yards that was good for second in the nation. He led the FBS with 39 touchdowns through the air adding another four touchdowns on the ground. He was selected as a 1st Team All-American.
Moving on to Shedeur, the son of Hall of Famer Deion Sanders. Shedeur at Colorado helped turn a one-loss program into a 9 win team in only two seasons. That speaks volumes to who he is as a person and player. Sanders put up amazing numbers at Colorado his senior season completing a nation-best 74% of his passes. He also set the Colorado school record for passing touchdowns with 64.
He rewrote the Colorado school record book in two seasons. He was selected to second-team All-American and won the Big 12 Player of the Year. I would say both of these guys have a shot at being the number one overall selection in the NFL Draft. Let’s see who else has a chance.
Travis Hunter
Hunter is a two-way star from Colorado where he played cornerback and wide receiver. This young man is the most gifted player I have ever seen on the gridiron. The grit and determination to dominate the line scrimmage as he does is truly amazing. He put up lockdown numbers as a corner. He led his team his senior season with 4 interceptions and 11 pass breakups.
While in coverage, he only allowed 23 catches and 1 TD on 41 targets per PFF. He won seven awards with the Heisman being the top one he received. Being a two-way star it would not surprise me if he goes number one overall. There is only one more player who I think can go No. 1 overall in the NFL Draft.
Abdul Carter
Carter is an edge rusher from Penn State who is an absolute game-changer. He was named All-American First Team and won the Ted Hendricks Award for best edge in the nation. When it comes to the gridiron, he led the FBS in tackles for loss with an astounding 23.5.
He also added 12 sacks to go along making him a bonafide stud. In 16 games he started his junior year, he had 68 tackles, 12 sacks, 4 PBU, and 2 forced fumbles. Then when you throw on that nation’s best 23.5 TFL, this guy is a nightmare for an offensive lineman. This is going to be tough.
Final Thoughts
If I had the first overall pick in the NFL Draft it would be between these four dudes right here. So I’m the GM of the Titans, who do I take? We have a QB prospect in Will Levis adding a two-way star in Hunter could be just what helps unlock his potential.
Then there is a nightmare in the name of Carter who could transform my defense. Then there are the two QBs that are top-tier talents. The clock is counting down, who do we pick? With the first pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, the Tennessee Titans select Travis Hunter WR/DB Colorado. Yep, if it was up to me, I would select the two-way star. At the end of the day, there is just too much talent to pass up.
