2025 NFL Draft Prospect Focus: Tulane vs Oklahoma Wide Receivers

NFL Draft Prospects
This game features two wide receiver prospects for the 2025 NFL Draft and is more important than you might think. Mario Willams of Tulane and Deion Burks of Oklahoma are two of the best separators in the country. Tulane almost beat #14 ranked Kansas St last week. If the Green Wave had pulled off the upset, this would be a matchup featuring two ranked teams.
Oklahoma is ranked 15th in the country and has sights set on the 12-team playoff. It is coming off a 16-12 win against Houston, where it barely hung on. Things won’t get any easier for the Sooners, as 5 of the top 7 teams are still left on their schedule. I don’t need to tell you that this is a must-win for the Sooners if they want to make the playoffs. For fans of the NFL Draft, this will be a fun one to watch.

Talented Wide Receivers In The 2025 NFL Draft Class

Both players transferred to their respective schools. Ironically, Williams started his career at Oklahoma, where he had a productive freshman season in 2021. He played for USC for two seasons but transferred to Tulane for his senior season. Burks played for Purdue in his first three seasons but is now with the Sooners.
To say these players are important to their offenses would be an understatement. Williams has ten catches for 252 years. No other Green Wave player has more than five catches or 97 yards. Burks has 15 receptions, nine more than anyone else on the Sooners. He also has 3 of the team’s six receiving touchdowns.
NFL teams always look for wide receivers who can run the full route tree when drafting. Williams can do that and is already an elite route runner. He is dangerous after the catch and has return ability. Williams loves it when teams play zone and has a knack for getting open. Drops should not be an issue for him as he consistently catches the ball away from his body.
Another thing NFL teams look for when drafting is how dynamic a receiver is after catching the ball. Burks is explosive after the catch. He has good hands and has no trouble tracking the ball while it’s in the air. Burks will go up and get the ball and plays bigger than his size. When you watch him, you see he looks like the most athletic player on the field. I have a feeling he will blow up the NFL Draft Combine.

Final Thoughts

These players are undersized at 5-foot-9 and under 200 pounds, which could affect where they go in the NFL Draft. They project as your prototypical slot receiver and have the quickness and route-running ability to handle that position. In recent years, undersized receivers have been great picks in the NFL Draft. Burks is more polished and is expected to be drafted higher. However, Williams will move up NFL team’s draft boards if he continues to play the way he has in the first two games. These playmakers are way lower than they should be on the consensus draft big board. Burks is #63 (should be top 50), while Williams is #347 (should be top 250). Oklahoma hosts Tulane this Saturday at 3:30 Easter on ESPN.
