2025 NFL Draft Prospect Breakdown: Colorado QB Shedeur Sanders

Quarterbacks are always the most talked about position heading into the draft. Finding an elite QB in the draft can completely change the path of your franchise. The Texans drafted Rookie of the Year, CJ Stroud 2nd overall in the 2023 draft. They went from one of the worst teams in the league in 2022 to a playoff team in 2023. Now the Texans are a Super Bowl contender.
Shedeur Sanders is coming off a productive 2023 season. The 6-foot-2 215-pound senior threw for 3,230 yards with 27 TD and just 3 interceptions. Colorado started 3-0 and despite Sander’s success, they would finish 4-8. They are off to a 3-1 start after an incredible win versus Baylor this past Saturday.

Miracle Finish for Colorado

Colorado was down seven points late in the 4th quarter. After Baylor missed a field goal, Sanders led Colorado to Baylor’s 44-yard line with two seconds left. He rolled to his left and heaved the ball into the end zone between two defenders. With rain coming down, Colorado wideout LaJohnTay Webster caught the ball for a touchdown with no time on the clock. Colorado would go on to win in overtime 38-31.

Strengths and Weaknesses

Sanders does a lot of things NFL draft evaluators are looking for. He has a cannon arm and can make every throw on the field. He is one of the more accurate quarterbacks in the country and rarely throws interceptions. Sanders reads the defense well from the pocket and almost always makes the correct read. He is very athletic and has the ability to pick up first downs with his legs.
My biggest criticism of Sanders is he sometimes holds the ball too long. He is confident he can make any play and and not afraid to take a hit. However, holding the ball too long has led to some unnecessary sacks. He also made one poor decision in the Nebraska game that led to a pick-six. The good news is these weaknesses are fixable and should not hurt his draft stock. Sanders is currently #5 in the NFL Draft Consensus Big Board and the #2 QB.

What Team Will Draft Sanders?

Shedeur is coached by his father, Hall of Fame CB Deion Sanders. Back in March, Deion was asked where his son could be drafted and said, “There’s certain cities that’s not going to happen.” He also said, “It’s going to be an Eli.” In the 2004 draft, former Ole Miss QB Eli Manning refused to play in San Diego for the Chargers and was traded to the New York Giants. Deion was not specific about which cities his son wouldn’t play for. Some drama could unfold just like in 2004 if the wrong team drafts Shedeur. In seven months we will find out.
