Adam Scott Continues Extraordinary Major Championship Streak Heading Into 2024 U.S. Open

Adam Scott will keep his historic streak going at the 2024 U.S. Open.

After some uncertainty heading into the 2024 U.S. Open beginning on Thursday, June 13, Adam Scott will tee it up at the year’s third major. Scott was in jeopardy of missing the tournament after failing to be in the top 60 of the Official World Golf Rankings entering the Memorial Tournament presented by Workday. Scott planned for the possibility of being leapfrogged in the rankings by a player below him teeing it up this week at the marquee tournament.

He failed to make the field through a qualifier in Columbus, Ohio. His only option to be in the field was by being top 60 in the world. Luckily for Scott, ranked No. 60 in the world entering this week, he will remain in that position and punch his ticket to yet another major championship.

This will be Scott’s 92nd consecutive major championship, the longest active streak on the PGA Tour. Golfing great Jack Nicklaus holds the record by playing in 154 consecutive majors between 1962 and 1998. Scott has teed it up in every major championship since the 2001 Open Championship.

Adam Scott is a one-time major champion winning The Masters in 2013. He will look to add to his illustrious major legacy this week at Pinehurst No. 2 located in Pinehurst, North Carolina. How will Adam Scott fare at the 2024 U.S. Open?

Adam Scott Career Summary

Scott is a 14-time winner on the PGA Tour. His last win on tour came in 2020 at The Genesis Invitational. He also has 11 wins on the European Tour, four wins on the Asian Tour, and six wins on the PGA Tour of Australasia. This will be the fourth time in which the U.S. Open will be contested at Pinehurst. The previous three occasions were in 1999, 2005, and 2014.

The 1999 tournament was won by Payne Stewart. Michael Campbell won in 2005 and Martin Kaymer hoisted the trophy in 2014. Adam Scott finished T28 in 2005(+8) and T9(+2) in 2014.

Scott has not failed well at the first two major championships of the season. He finished T22(+4) at The Masters and missed the cut at last month’s PGA Championship. Scott has only one top-10 finish this season. He finished in a tie for eighth at the Waste Management Phoenix Open back in early February. His last start before the U.S. Open was at the RBC Canadian Open where he finished tied for 42nd.

Just a few of the players that Adam Scott will have to contend with this week at Pinehurst are Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy, and Xander Schauffele. Scheffler and McIlroy are the top two players in the world Schauffele is coming off his first major championship at last month’s PGA Championship. Scheffler has already won five times this season as he continues his historic run on the course.

Expectations For Scott

Scott will be in for a brutal test beginning on Thursday at Pinehurst. The course has been lengthened by about 300 yards since the last time this venue hosted the tournament. This year’s tournament will provide a much different test than U.S. Open sites of the past as the golf course has minimal rough and wide fairways. That is the antithesis of the standard setup. Golfers will have to contend with sand and native areas bordering the fairways instead of knee-high rough.

Adam Scott will need to turn back the clock and play his best tournament in years to compete at the 2024 U.S. Open.
