More Dominance Again for Team USA Track & Field
The United States’ surge to break the 100-medal mark can thank the US delegation for the Track & Field at the 2024 Paris Olympics. On Thursday, Team USA once again added a rainbow of medals with three golds, three silvers, and two bronzes. Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone set a world record in her gold medal-winning run while Grant Holloway captured his first gold ribbon in his career. Holloway came so close to the pinnacle of sports with a silver medal in Tokyo. Now he can hold his head high from the top step of the podium:
“Today, it was just my day,” said Holloway. “I have the Olympic title, I have the world titles, indoor titles. We just put a lot of whipped cream on it and now we are just going to keep rolling, rolling, rolling until that very last race and put the cherry on it.”
Noah Lyles competed and earned a bronze medal in the men’s 200m sprint before announcing that he was finished at the 2024 Paris Olympics due to a battle with illness. Lyles was expected to be part of Friday’s men’s 4x100m relay team on Friday night.
Team USA Men’s Basketball Overcome Serbia
In a dramatic men’s basketball semi-final contest, Team USA’s men’s basketball squad rallied from 17 points down to advance to the gold medal game on Sunday with a 95-91 win. Cory Pappas broke down all the fun stats with Steph Curry’s hot shooting and LeBron James’ triple-double performance. The Los Angeles Lakers star has adapted his game to work alongside his fellow NBA all-stars.
“Whatever it takes for our team to be successful, that’s what I’ll do,” James said. “That’s always going to be my approach. Whatever the game calls for, whatever it takes to be successful.”
The win provides Team USA men’s basketball a chance at a fifth straight gold medal this weekend. A place in the bronze medal matchup would have been considered a massive disappointment for a star-studded lineup coached by Golden State’s Steve Kerr. Team USA will battle host nation France and Victor Wembanyama on the final day at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Team USA Improves Gold Medal Lead at the 2024 Paris Olympics
Team USA added nine more medals to cross the 100-medal threshold extending an insurmountable lead at the 2024 Paris Olympics. The United States sits atop the leaderboard with 103 ribbons collected in France. The People’s Republic of China has 73 total medals followed by France (54), Great Britain (51), and Australia (45).
The United States also maintains a slim advantage in the race for top podium positions at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Team USA finished with a one-medal advantage over the People’s Republic of China with 30 first-place finishes at the Summer Games. China sits in second with 29 victories followed by Australia’s 18 golden Olympic titles.
