2024 Paris Olympics: Team USA Steals Gold Medal Lead on Day 11

There are only a handful of days remaining on the 2024 Paris Olympics calendar with more than half of the Summer Games completed following Day 11 in France. Team USA has cemented its position as an athletic powerhouse with dominance from Nanterre to Paris. It would take an inexplicable run for even the closest nation to challenge Team USA for the most medals collected at these Summer Games.

During the first week of the 2024 Paris Olympics, the People’s Republic of China was the first nation to surge past the double-digit mark. Now, Team USA has eclipsed even that impressive mark to take the top leaderboard for event winners at the Olympics.

With some major competitions over the 2024 Paris Olympics final days, it will be worth watching if the United States can soar past the 100 total medal mark in an impressive display for Team USA this summer.

Over the course of an hour, the Team USA Track and Field Team thrilled viewers all around the globe in several event finals from Saint-Denis, France.  When the dust had settled back down to the track, the United States stood tall with six new medals – two gold, one silver, and three bronzes.

Cole Hocker set a new Olympic record in a stunning result during the 1,500-meter final overcoming a pair of reigning, defending Olympic medalists to claim his spot at the top of the podium. Teammate Yared Nuguse secured the bronze medal for the Stars and Stripes.

In the women’s 200m final, Gabby Thomas “blacked out” as she blitzed her way to her first ever gold medal while teammate Brittany Brown won bronze. Thomas, 24,  had collected a bronze medal the Tokyo stated that all of the mental preparations could have never prepared for the the real feeling of winning  a gold medal at the Olympics:

“I’ve envisioned this race in my head so many times over and over, as I do with every race,” said a beaming Thomas. “That’s how I win races. But I did not expect to feel how I felt when I crossed that line. You prepare for this moment and train so hard for this moment but when it actually comes, it’s indescribable. I never would have imagined in my wildest dreams that I would become an Olympic gold medalist and I am one. I’m still wrapping my head around that.”

Ennette Nneka Echikunwoke claimed the second-place spot for a silver medal in the women’s hammer throw. Omari Jones won a bronze medal for Team USA in the Men’s welterweight (71kg) competition.

USWNT guaranteed medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics

With disappointing results at the past two Summer Games, the U.S. Women’s National Soccer Team, or USWNT, entered the 2024 Paris Olympics with heavy expectations on their shoulders. Just a year ago, the USWNT departed the World Cup with their worst-ever finish on an international stage. Now, a year later, a squad that features a similar roster will fight for a gold medal this weekend. Regardless of its color, the US Women will return Stateside with a shiny new ribbon to be incredibly proud of.

Sophia Smith served as the day’s American hero with a 95th extra time goal propelling Team USA to a 1-0 victory over Germany. Smith claims the team turned the page after last season which has resulted in success at the 2024 Paris Olympics:

“We had a tough year last year. In every way possible,” Smith said. “But I feel like this is a new year and we’re really just showing the world that we didn’t ever drop off. We just needed a learning year and a growth year and we’re back. And, hopefully, on top after this next game.

Team USA secures gold medal lead in France

Team USA added to an insurmountable lead in the total medal count at the 2024 Paris Olympics on Tuesday. Overall the US captured 16 medals over the last two days to reach  86 medals collected.  The People’s Republic of China (59) has pulled away from France for second place (48) over the last 48 hours of competition.

Team USA is also now two-up in the gold medal category with 24 wins over the same People’s Republic of China (22)  for most top-tier medals of the Summer Games. France has electrified the crowd 12 times with an athlete winning top honors in their event in front of the home supporters.
