2024 Paris Olympics: Canada vs. Australia Preview

Team France advanced to the Olympic final. running

The current leading teams in Group A preliminary rounds, Australia and Canada, will face each other for their second 2024 Paris Olympics game. Team Canada faced Giannis’ Greece and triumphed with a seven-point margin (86-79). Also, the Canadian team collected many team fouls that should’ve given Greece the offensive advantage. Further, this team’s vital players, Dillon Brooks, Luguentz Dort, and Dwight Powell, managed to foul out of the game. Thus, if the Canadian team isn’t careful, they could miss winning against Team Australia.

Team Australia had a massive win against the Spanish basketball team. The Australian Boomers made 50.7% in field goals and 50% in three-pointers to win with a 12-point margin (92-80). The Boomers have good shooters and defenders; therefore, if this team maintains this momentum, they could dominate Team Canada.

The NBA Star, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, brought his A-game to the court. The OKC point guard displayed a 3-and-D performance that helped Team Canada escape Giannis’s 34-point performance. Shai got 21 points, seven assists, five rebounds, two blocks and a steal. Also, SGA shot 50% in field goals (5-of-10), 9-of-10 from the charity stripe, and 2-of-3 three-point attempts.

RJ Barret finished with the highest number of points with 23, four rebounds, and three assists, making 61.5% in the field (8-of-13) and 6-of-6 shots from the foul line. Also, Barret displayed a two-way performance which helped the overall output. Therefore, for this Canadian team to triumph over the Australian Boomers, Team Canada needs to bring a top-notch defense to the court.

Team Australia

Josh Giddey made his debut Olympic appearance and shined in his performance against Spain. The Chicago Bulls guard scored 17 points with eight assists and eight rebounds. From the field, Giddey made 58.3% of his shots (7-of-12) with 2-of-4 from downtown. Also, Patty Mills played good offense and defense as he got 19 points, two assists, and two steals. Further, he shot 50% in field goals with 3-of-6 in three points. Mills’ three-and-D skill could cause problems for the Canadian team’s defense.

Jock Landale displayed a stellar performance and was the best performer among his teammates. After his debut game against Team Spain, the Boomer center got 20 points, five assists, and nine assists. In the field, he shot 64.3% of his shots (9-of-14) with one three-point made. The Boomers have proven to be a solid contender for the 2024 Paris Olympics. Also, if the team could maintain this two-digit performance, Canada would not have a chance against the Boomers.

Possible Breakout Players of the Game

Team Canada

Denver Nugget Jamal Murray couldn’t find his footing in the game. He came off the bench for 18 minutes and made only eight points, three assists and one steal. Also, the Nugget point guard hit two of his field-goal attempts. Thus, Murray is still trying to get into his game as he could explode against Team Canada to put his team on top of the Group A preliminary table.

Team Australia

Josh Green struggled to score points in the game despite playing for 22 minutes. The Boomer guard got four assists and two rebounds. This performance is poor for a point guard, however, Green might still be getting into his groove. Meanwhile, Jack McVeigh came off the bench for 20 minutes to bag 13 points and seven rebounds with 50% in field goal attempts (4-of-8) and 3-of-6 three-pointers. Thus, McVeigh could replicate his sixth-man performance against Team Canada.
