The 2024 NBA draft is near, and with that comes the debate of who will be chosen in the top ten. However, let’s zoom in a bit and focus on who could be going top three. These will be the players that will be expected to rise up the ranks of the NBA and get their teams playing at a higher level. This year, it’s clear that the draft class isn’t the greatest, but the top three players should still be decent and capable of putting on a show.
2024 NBA Draft – Pick 1
The first pick of the draft will most likely be another French phenom. After Victor Wembanyama’s great year, we could see the rise of Alex Sarr. Right now, Sarr is playing for the Perth Wildcats in Australia. He is averaging 9.4 points per game, .9 assists per game, and 4.3 rebounds per game. His team came in second place in the NBL, just under Melbourne United. In the draft combine, Sarr came in 5th in Max Vertical Leap for the center position with 37.0 inches.
The Atlanta Hawks are the first pick in the 2024 NBA draft. Their starting center is Clint Capela. However, there is a belief that he could be traded after the team signed Onyeka Okongwu to a 4-yeard deal in 2023. Picking up Sarr as the new backup center behind Okongwu could be a solid move. They could also probably pick up some picks for the Capela trade.
2024 NBA Draft – Pick 2
It is believed that Zaccharie Risacher could go second in the 2024 NBA draft to the Washington Wizards. However, there might be a better option here. Donovan Clingan, who is set to be drafted in the top 10 after his winning season with UCONN, might be the best choice for this Wizards team. Their current center is Marvin Bagley III, and he didn’t have the best year, so picking up a young center could be a better decision.
The center averaged 13.0 points per game, 7.4 rebounds per game, and 1.5 assists per game. The Wizards could use these stats at center. Zaccharie Risacher is a great player, but the team has Deni Avdija and Corey Kispert at the small center, and they just picked up Bilal Coulibaly for the guard position.
2024 NBA Draft – Pick 3
With Clingan possibly pushing him out of second, prepare to see French player Zaccharie Risacher to be the third pick in the 2024 NBA draft. The Houston Rockets are a young team that has a bright future. This could be a great place for Risacher to grow and learn. Plus, he’s already had a good amount of time in the pro league, making him a solid choice for a team that could be contending in the next few years.
Risacher most recently played for JL Bourg in France. He averaged 10.1 points per game, .9 assists per game, and 3.8 rebounds per game. He also had a decent amount of 15+ point games for the 2023-24 season. The 19-year-old could be a great addition to the Rockets as they continue to build their young core.
