The bustling streets of the North Carolina city were filled with enthusiastic fans wearing vibrant yellow Colombia jerseys, eagerly anticipating the kick-off. In the 74,800-capacity Bank of America Stadium, the atmosphere resembled a home game in Bogota, with only scattered pockets of Uruguayan supporters amidst the overwhelming Colombian supporters.

Colombia made a strong start, with Luis Diaz impressively creating space on the left to deliver a cross. Unfortunately, Daniel Munoz, the full-back, couldn’t find the target with his header at the back post.

Uruguay proved to be a constant danger on the counter-attack, showcasing their trademark style. The talented Liverpool star, Darwin Nunez, came enticingly close to capitalizing on one such break, thanks to a brilliant pass from Rodrigo Bentancur. However, the forward narrowly missed the target with his shot. As Maximiliano Araujo set him up perfectly in the inside-right channel, Nunez missed yet another golden opportunity. The Liverpool striker’s shot was rushed and soared high and wide of the target.

Later on, Colombia managed to create a turnover, resulting in a perfectly executed cross from James Rodriguez. However, Jhon Cordoba’s header unfortunately missed the mark.

In the 39th minute, Lerma scored what would turn out to be the only goal of the game. He outmatched Jose Maria Gimenez and unleashed a powerful header into the net from Rodriguez’s corner. Rodriguez recorded his sixth assist of the tournament, surpassing Lionel Messi’s record for most assists in a single Copa America.

Colombia seized the opportunity to capitalize on their momentum as Richard Rios put pressure on Uruguay’s goalkeeper Sergio Rochet after a well-executed pass from Munoz. After making a significant impact on the right side during the first half, Munoz lost his composure just before halftime. He received a second yellow card for landing an elbow on Manuel Ugarte. Colombia found themselves in a precarious situation as they were forced to defend their lead with only 10 players for the entire second half.

Nestor Lorenzo made a strategic move in the 62nd minute by substituting Rodriguez, who was also on a yellow card. This decision came as Uruguay started to convert their numerical advantage into tangible pressure.

Nicolas de la Cruz came close to scoring with a powerful shot. Federico Valverde then set up substitute Luis Suarez, but the 37-year-old narrowly missed the target with a well-struck drive from the edge of the box. Valverde himself, this time, came close to scoring with a powerful shot, putting pressure on Colombia’s defense, who were fortunate to avoid conceding a goal.

The Uruguayan goalkeeper made a mistake, and the ball fell to Mateus Uribe. He had time and room to shoot, but his shot went wide of the post.

In the dying moments of the game, Uruguay had a golden opportunity to level the score and potentially take the match to penalties. Nunez passed the ball to substitute Giorgian de Arrascaeta, who found himself in a promising position just outside the penalty area. However, under pressure, de Arrascaeta unfortunately leaned back too much and sent his shot sailing over the crossbar.

Uribe had one last opportunity to secure the victory for Colombia, but unfortunately, he hit the bar. Moments later the referee blew the final whistle, and Colombia will play Argentina in the final.

The post-match celebrations were overshadowed by ugly incidents in the stands, which will undoubtedly raise concerns for CONMEBOL organizers ahead of the final.
